$450,000 in loans aim to stimulate local economy

ADDISON COUNTY — Eight area businesses needing cash for new equipment, inventory and/or workers to take their respective operations to the next level are getting some help from the Addison County Economic Development Corp. The ACEDC has approved a total of $450,000 in loans to the firms, which are located in Vergennes, Bridport, Bristol and Middlebury.

Robin Scheu, executive director of the ACEDC, is pleased to see great demand for the ACEDC loans.

Country Home Products sold to Wisconsin manufacturer

VERGENNES/WAUKESHA, Wis. — Generac Holdings Inc., a designer and manufacturer of power generation equipment and other engine-powered products, announced this week the Aug. 1 acquisition of Country Home Products Inc. and its subsidiaries, according to a company press release.

Founded in 1985 and headquartered in Vergennes, Country Home Products manufactures power equipment used for property maintenance. Primarily sold in North America under the DR and Neuton brand names, CHP employs more than 200 people in its headquarters and in Charlotte and Winooski facilities.

Business is brewing on Middlebury's Exchange Street

MIDDLEBURY — Two popular beverage companies in Middlebury’s industrial park are rolling out new ventures aimed at delivering their respective products to a growing number of fans.

Otter Creek Brewing (OCB) is pursuing a 7,195-square-foot brew-house addition for its headquarters at 793 Exchange St. that would allow the company to more than double its annual production of 65,000 barrels of beer.

Youthful entrepreneurs get on the bus to their future

ADDISON COUNTY — For unsuspecting children, a school bus turned blue overnight recently.

Here, in the parking lot of the Bingham Memorial School in Cornwall, Middlebury College junior Lena Jacobs has transformed a typical, yellow school bus into a mobile classroom that will soon depart Vermont for a summer-long trip across the United States.

In its new capacity, the bus will continue to transport youngsters, only now it will take them on the first leg of a trip toward achieving their dreams.

Businesses eye local presence in Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY — Jamie Gaucher, director of the Middlebury Office of Business Development & Innovation, last week updated the Middlebury selectboard on economic development efforts in the shire town.

He reported, among other things, that a financing group based in North Carolina has asked for a financial estimate for a new Vermont Livestock headquarters in Middlebury’s industrial park.

Economic development pitches to be heard in Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY — Addison County Economic Development Corp. (ACEDC) announces that Lt. Gov. Phil Scott is coming to Middlebury to hear from Addison County businesses, educators, students, local governments, social service agencies and others about prospects for improving Vermont’s economy.

Scott has been hosting a series of what he calls “economic pitch sessions” around the state, at which people present their ideas for economic prosperity.
