Three-term city mayor will not seek re-election

VERGENNES — Vergennes Mayor Michael Daniels made official in a Wednesday phone interview what he hinted at during last Tuesday’s city council meeting: He will not run again for his office next March.

“I am stepping down,” Daniels said on May 23. “I am going to stay active in the community in some way, shape or matter ... But unless something changes drastically, I am not running again next year ... I’m still having fun, but it’s time for a fresh set of eyes.”

Bray announces state Senate bid

NEW HAVEN — Former Democratic Rep. Christopher Bray of New Haven confirmed he will seek one of Addison County’s two state Senate seats this fall, a move that sets the stage for an Aug. 28 primary showdown with incumbent Democratic Sens. Claire Ayer of Addison and Harold Giard of Bridport.

Donovan seeks top lawyer post

MIDDLEBURY — TJ Donovan is seeking to graduate from chief prosecutor in the state’s most populous county to the chief law enforcement officer for the entire state.

Fulfilling that goal will be no small task, and Donovan, 38, knows it. He would need to prevail in an Aug. 28 Democratic primary contest against 15-year incumbent Attorney General Bill Sorrell, and then compete in the General Election in November.

Donovan said his candidacy is nothing personal against Sorrell.
