In my previous column, I confessed that what I missed most since moving to Vermont from California’s Bay Area were sidewalks.

If you asked my husband what he misses most since arriving in Vermont, he’d respond, “Food and produce.”

If you were to ask me now, almost two years since I moved to Vermont, what I miss most about the other places I’ve lived – the Virginia suburbs, Manhattan, the San Francisco Bay Area – I would answer: “Sidewalks.”

Faith in Vermont: Driving in Snow

Moving to Vermont provided my first real experience driving in snow. I learned to drive in Northern Virginia, where life shuts down when the first snowflakes fall and you don’t drive anywhere. I didn’t have a car during college in Western Massachusetts, or throughout my post-college life in New York City. When I finally became a regular driver, in the San Francisco Bay Area, there wasn’t any snow.
