Editorial: Petition on town office vote offers additional time for reflection

The petition to reconsider Middlebury’s Town Meeting Day vote on a $7.5 million plan to build a new municipal building and recreation center and create a park on the existing site is to be expected and respectfully considered. Petitions frequently follow controversial, and close, votes.

MIDDLEBURY — “The Green Mountain Upset,” the feature-length documentary film that chronicles the 1982-83 Middlebury Union High School boys’ basketball team’s surprising undefeated season and state title, will premiere at Middlebury’s Town Hall Theater on March 28.

Saints march past Panther men's lacrosse

MIDDLEBURY — The early season struggles continued on Tuesday for the Middlebury College men’s lacrosse team with a 14-7 loss to visiting St. Lawrence that dropped the Panthers to 1-4.

A combination of youth — only four starters return from the Panthers 2013 13-3 team — and a tough early season schedule — the 3-1 Saints were the third top-20 NCAA Division III team Middlebury has faced — has contributed to the slow start.

Panther women's lacrosse moves to 4-0

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College women’s lacrosse team ran its record to 4-0, 3-0 in NESCAC play, with a pair of recent wins. The Panthers ended last week ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division III.

On Saturday, Middlebury scored the final six goals in a 10-4 win over visiting Wesleyan (2-3, 0-3) in the Panthers’ home opener.

Middlebury distance relay team excels at NCAA meet

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Middlebury College women’s distance medley relay team earned all-American honors for the fifth straight season to highlight the Panthers’ efforts this past weekend at the NCAA Division III indoor track and field championship meet, hosted by the University of Nebraska.

Panther women's tennis hits 3-0 mark

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College women’s tennis team, ranked No. 6 in NCAA Division III, on Saturday improved to 3-0 with a 7-2 victory over 17th-ranked M.I.T.

The Panthers will next take to the court for five matches out in California during its spring break trip, starting with a visit to 12th-ranked Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.

Middlebury Police Log: Guns reported stolen in Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police investigated a reported burglary at a South Pleasant Street residence on March 13. Police said the stolen items included a 0.22-caliber Ruger revolver and a 0.22-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun.

A public reception will be held on Wednesday, March 26, from 5-6:30 p.m. at 109 Catamount Park in Middlebury to honor and celebrate Peters’ dedication to the community. Refreshments will be provided.

Upcoming expo to help us think about sustainability

MIDDLEBURY — Addison County residents will be able to discuss new sustainable approaches to everyday life at the Sustainable Living Expo scheduled for March 29 at the Middlebury Union High School. The event, organized by the Addison County Relocalization Network (ACORN), will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature 100 exhibitors and 35 workshops, including student presentations, off-site tours, live music and local food samplings.
