Anyone who wishes to run for a town or school office must submit a nominating petition at their town office by 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 26. Signatures from 1 percent of registered voters are required.

Voters will head to the polls on Town Meeting Day, March 3, to choose their representatives.

SunCommon withdraws Route 7 solar proposal in New Haven

Posted on December 31, 2014 |
By Addison Independent

NEW HAVEN — The application for what has become a controversial 150-kilowatt community solar array in New Haven was withdrawn on Dec. 19. Waterbury solar firm SunCommon withdrew the application with the Public Service Board citing community concerns.

The proposal would have occupied about one acre on the west side of Route 7 near the Waltham town line. The company noted opposition to the project in its decision to end its bid, and issued the following statement:

BRISTOL — The five elementary schools in the Addison Northeast Supervisory Union this month created draft budgets for the 2015-2016 school year, giving residents the first idea of what they’ll be asked to approve on Town Meeting Day.

The district disclosed draft budgets for Bristol Elementary, Beeman Elementary, Robinson Elementary, Monkton Central  and Lincoln Community schools last week.

Each school estimates a spending increase, and those hikes range from 3.9 to 9.8 percent.

ADDISON COUNTY — It’s been another busy year for solar firms in Vermont, and Addison County will host some of the state’s largest arrays.

As of Dec. 1, the Public Service Board had issued Certificates of Public Good to 138 projects across the state, ranging from small rooftop units to multi-acre solar arrays. Twenty-six projects are located in Addison County.

These figures don’t include residential-size projects of less than 15 kilowatts, which do not need a CPG.

NEW HAVEN — As New Haven sorts through more than a dozen solar projects proposed in town, a resident has an idea that he says would mollify the siting concerns of neighbors and also allow solar firms to make the best use of the town’s abundance of flat, open farmland.

Residents have raised concerns about the Public Service Board approving one-acre, 150-kilowatt solar arrays to be built in residential areas, often a stone’s throw from their homes. Some say they’re ugly, while others are concerned that nearby arrays will devalue their property.
