Middlebury College hosts 90th winter carnival this weekend

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury College will host its 90th annual winter carnival this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 15 and 16. The Nordic races will be contested at the Rikert Nordic Center on the Bread Loaf campus in Ripton, while the alpine events will be held at the Middlebury College Snow Bowl up Route 125 in Hancock.

MUHS skiers prevail in Nordic relays at Bolton

BOLTON VALLEY — The Middlebury Union High School Nordic ski teams swept to victories on Jan. 29 in relay races hosted by BFA-St. Albans at the Bolton Valley Nordic Center.

The Tiger girls’ and boys’ teams each prevailed over a couple dozen teams from a half-dozen schools in a three-leg relay held on a 3-kilometer course.

Tiger Nordic hosts Classic: Groves, Allen ski to top-10 finishes for MUHS

RIPTON — Top-10 finishes by seniors Mac Groves and Lydia Allen highlighted the efforts by the Middlebury Union High School Nordic ski team in cold conditions on Monday, when the Tigers hosted the Middlebury Classic at Ripton’s Rikert Nordic Center.

Groves took third in the boys’ 5-kilometer classic race in 17:23, 26 seconds behind the winner, Rutland’s Issac Wright (16:57). Champlain Valley’s Forrest Hamilton took second in 17:01. Junior Max Livingstone-Peters was the next Tiger across the finish line, taking 21st in 20:07.

Nordic ski club has something for everyone

GOSHEN — “If there ever was a state made for Nordic skiing, it’s this one.”

That’s the view of Cam MacKugler, coach of Frost Mountain Nordic (FMN), and his friends in this local organization, which has the goals of developing “a community of skiing enthusiasts” and providing the coaching and tutelage necessary to help athletes reach the highest levels of competition.
