NEW HAVEN — The five-town community is mourning the death of Levi Duclos, 19, of New Haven, who died during a hiking trip that began Monday afternoon on the Emily Proctor Trail in Ripton.

Vermont State Police Log: Man cited for stealing, wrecking cars

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police this week cited a Barton man into court for stealing and wrecking two vehicles from Hancock.

On this past Nov. 5, troopers from the Royalton VSP barracks responded to a Route 125 home in Hancock for reports of two stolen vehicles. Trooper Slusser reported that investigation revealed that Tyler Norris, 20, of Barton in the Northeast Kingdom took a vehicle owned by Ashley Brown of Hancock and crashed it nearby.

Vermont State Police Log: DNA leads police to Salisbury man

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police on Jan. 2 cited Justin R. Schroeder, 30, of Salisbury for burglary of a recreational vehicle parked off Woodpecker Lane at Kampersville in Salisbury last May 20. The arrest came after months of investigation in a case that police said was sealed by DNA evidence found at the crime scene.

As reported by the victims last May, the break-in at the R.V., which served as a seasonal residence, caused approximately $3,035 in damages. Personal property was also stolen from the seasonal home.

State rules Woodburn death a suicide

SALISBURY — The Vermont Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has officially ruled the Nov. 17 death of Gerald “Dusty” Woodburn, 52, of Salisbury, to have been a suicide, from a single gunshot to the head.

It was on Nov. 17 that Troopers Second Class Lewis Hatch and Kaitlyn Armstrong responded to Woodburn’s apartment on Lake Dunmore Road in Salisbury after receiving a 911 call from his girlfriend alleging a domestic disturbance.

VSP releases names of troopers in Salisbury shooting incident

SALISBURY — Vermont State Police late Friday released the names of the two troopers who were first to arrive on the scene at an incident early Thursday morning that ended in the death of 52-year-old Gerald “Dusty” Woodburn. State police said Woodburn took his own life following his involvement in a domestic dispute at his home off Lake Dunmore Road during the early morning of Nov. 17.

Update: Salisbury man dies in shooting incident with VSP

SALISBURY — Vermont State Police reported that a Salisbury man apparently shot and killed himself early this morning after troopers were called to his home for a domestic dispute, and the man pointed a gun at them.

VSP this afternoon said that Gerald “Dusty” Woodburn, 52, died in the incident, but no one else was injured.

Drowning victim's body found

FERRISBURGH — Vermont State Police and the U.S. Coast Guard recovered the body of a Ferrisburgh man from Lake Champlain on Tuesday afternoon, concluding a three-day search for the drowning victim.

Vermont State Police said at about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday Rene Viau, a 46-year-old married father of two and employee of Vermont Heating and Ventilation in Winooski, was riding in the bow of a 16-foot aluminum boat near Kellogg and Porter bays when he fell out and did not resurface.
