Sparse crowd weighs in on Vermont Yankee

MIDDLEBURY — The Vermont Citizens Awareness Network’s public discussion on decommissioning the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant drew only three members of the public to the basement conference room of Ilsley Public Library in Middlebury Tuesday evening.

Organizer Chris Williams and lobbyist Bob Stannard, both of VCAN, led the panel discussion. They gave an overview of the state of regulation of the Vernon plant, and talked about their organization’s efforts to close it down.

Nuclear plant's future remains up in the air

MIDDLEBURY — Local lawmakers continue to be concerned about the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant owner’s ongoing legal fight to remain open and to remain part of the state’s long-term energy future.

Vermont Attorney General Bill Sorrell on Feb. 17 announced that he will appeal a federal district court judge’s ruling that gave new hope to Entergy Nuclear’s quest to keep its Vernon-based power plant open.

Industry mulls post-nuclear rates

According to spokespeople at the state’s two largest utility companies — Central Vermont Public Service (CVPS) and Green Mountain Power (GMP) — not too much.

ADDISON COUNTY — A New England nonprofit opposed to nuclear proliferation on Monday warned a group of 40 Addison County residents and legislators about the imminent dangers surrounding the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant and its possible closure next year.

Renewable energy group to hold forum on Vermont Yankee

MIDDLEBURY — A public forum about the future of the Vermont Yankee nuclear power station will be held on Monday, June 20, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Middlebury Congregational Church in downtown Middlebury. Sponsored by the Citizens Awareness Network (CAN) — a New England-based nonprofit dedicated to a renewable energy-focused economy — a panel of experts and activists opposed to nuclear power will outline how citizens can get involved with the shutting down and cleaning up of Vermont Yankee.
