Vermont State Police Log: Man lodged after allegedly violating abuse prevention order

ADDISON COUNTY — On Dec. 7 at around 1:30 p.m. Vermont State Police in New Haven responded to the report of an abuse prevention order violation in Ripton.

As a result of their investigation, troopers arrested Brian Booska, 37, of Middlebury for violating an abuse prevention order. He was lodged at the Chittenden County Correctional Center for lack of $10,000 bail.

Separately, a New Haven woman was jailed last Friday as the result of allegedly engaging in two assaults, as well as having contact with a man with whom she is legally barred from contacting.

VSP log: Police stop knife-wielding driver

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police received a report of a road rage incident between two motorists actively taking place on Route 7 in the New Haven at a little after 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29. It was reported that one of the drivers was making slashing motions toward the other driver in the car and also raising his knife through a sunroof while making slashing motions toward the other driver.

Panel puts VSP at lead in search and rescue

MONTPELIER — The Search and Rescue Strategic Plan Development Committee has completed its work, approving recommendations and proposed statutory changes to be presented to the upcoming Legislative session. Rep. Willem Jewett, D-Ripton, and former state police search and rescue team leader Jocelyn Stohl abstained from the vote taken at the Committee’s fourth and final meeting in Montpelier Oct. 24.

Vermont State Police Log: 'Haunted house' signs stolen

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police on Friday, Oct. 12, received a complaint from Eric Huestis, 35, of Ferrisburgh, that someone had stolen all of the haunted house signs for their haunted house.

The thefts of the signs from Route 7 in Ferrisburgh apparently had taken place sometime between 9 p.m. the previous night and 10:30 a.m. that morning.

State Police Log: Waltham shooting under investigation

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police are looking into a shooting incident in Waltham.

On Wednesday, Sept. 26, at approximately 6:20 p.m. VSP and Vergennes police responded to 7441 Ethan Allen Highway in Waltham for a report of a house being shot at.

Upon arrival police found that the southwest door of the residence had been damaged by what appeared to be a .45 caliber pistol round. The bullet only penetrated one of the two panes of glass resulting in no injuries to the two people who were inside of the residence at the time.

Vermont State Police Log: Logging equipment missing from Ferrisburgh garage

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police last week received a report of the theft of logging chains, load binders and a set of red clamp-on forks from the Ferrisburgh town garage on Little Chicago Road.

The theft is believed to have occurred between Aug. 31 and Sept. 11.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the VSP at 388-4919 or submit an anonymous tip by texting “CRIMES” to keyword “VTIPS.”

Vermont State Police Log: Flagger on road project hit by apple trailer

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police were called to an accident at the intersection of Smith Street and Witherell Road in Shoreham at approximately 3:51 p.m. last Saturday.

In their report, troopers said that 48-year-old Sheila King of Rutland was working as a traffic controller at a paving site there when she waved through a tractor towing a trailer with a load of apples. The operator of the tractor, Charles Kennett, 64, of Panton, had been making a left-hand turn onto Smith Street from Witherell Road.

Vermont State Police Log: Break-ins, burglaries occupy VSP

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police “followed the Subway” to a Bristol resident they have charged with burglary in connection with an Aug. 1 break-in at the Lincoln General Store.

Police on Monday, Aug. 27, cited Josh Mayo, 21, for burglary for allegedly breaking into the Lincoln store through a side window. Once inside, authorities allege he stole around $305 in cash and $330 in cigarettes.

Vermont State Police are updating search and rescue policy

WATERBURY — Vermont State Police issued a statement today saying they are revising their search and rescue policy.

The move comes after VSP received public criticism for their slow response last month to the report of a hiker missing in the Green Mountains — 19-year-old Levi Duclos — who subsequently died on the trail.

Salisbury man dies at VSP call

SALISBURY — Vermont State Police reported that a Salisbury man apparently shot and killed himself early last Thursday morning after troopers responded to a 911 call from his home off Lake Dunmore Road for a domestic dispute, and the man pointed a gun at them.

Gerald “Dusty” Woodburn, 52, died in the incident; no one else was injured.
