Selectboard: Delay in Middlebury town office vote would add $353K to price

MIDDLEBURY — Delaying until next March a vote on new Middlebury municipal offices and a new recreation center could add $353,000 more to the project price tag than if the matter were decided this December, according to new information unveiled on Tuesday by members of a panel charged with mapping out the proposal.

Shumlin condemns federal government shutdown

CAMP JOHNSON — The government shutdown, now in its second week, has ceased operations in all government offices, putting thousands of government workers on furlough and stopping funding to federal programs across the country. On Monday, Gov. Peter Shumlin, joined by Vermont National Guard Maj. Gen. Steven Cray and other state officials at Camp Johnson in Colchester, outlined the growing effects of the federal shutdown on Vermonters.

Bristol health center gets federal designation

BRISTOL — The Mountain Health Center in Bristol has moved to the BristolWorks complex and for the past year has been offering health care to underserved populations — in addition to its traditional clientele. But last week the center got word that it has received designation that will make it easier for the medical practice to continue providing those services.

Lightning Photo to close its doors after decades in business

MIDDLEBURY — It was in 1972 that David Werle focused on transforming his enthusiasm for photography into a new business — Middlebury Darkroom at 64 Main St. He and his family followed that up in 1983 with the opening of Lightning Photo in The Centre shopping plaza, a business that would move to 111 Court St. in 2002.
