MARJORIE FREEMAN

MIDDLEBURY — Marjorie Freeman, 94, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Wednesday, May 6, at Porter Healthcare and Rehab Center in Middlebury.

She was born on May 21, 1920, in St Albans, Vermont, to Marvin and Mary Carter, the eldest of six children. She graduated from BFA High School in St Albans in 1938. Marjorie moved with her family to Montpelier shortly after. On July 29, 1942, she married Albert H. Freeman in Montpelier, VT. They moved to Middlebury in late 1954.

MIRIAM HILL

VERGENNES — Miriam Virginia Thornton Hill, 68, died unexpectedly May 14, 2015, at her home in Vergennes. Born on Aug. 19, 1946, in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late James Claire Thornton and late Mary Bauman Thornton.

ELIZABETH HUNT

MIDDLEBURY — A celebration of life service for Elizabeth Hunt, who died in October, will be held on Saturday, May 30, at 1 p.m. at the Congregational Church of Middlebury. ◊

J.K. STEWART KIRKALDY

MIDDLEBURY — J.K. Stewart Kirkaldy, 86, of Middlebury died on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at Helen Porter Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on July 3, 1928, in March, England, and had a long career as a physician before moving to Middlebury in his retirement.

JEAN S. NEKOLA

MIDDLEBURY — Jean Sweany (Smith) Nekola died on May 1, 2015, at the age of 89.  Born on November 13, 1925, at Camp Lewis (now Fort Lewis), Washington, she was the daughter of Laura Ward Sweany and General Kenneth Shearer Sweany, a 1923 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy.

BEVERLY NORTON

BRIDPORT — Beverly A. Norton, 77, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at 11 a.m. in Bridport Central Cemetery. The Rev. Jill Robinson will officiate. There will be no visiting hours per her request.

RETA PUTNAM

SALISBURY — Reta R. Putnam, 94, died at Rutland Regional Medical Center on May 11.

She was born in Fort Fairfield, Maine. For the past two years, she lived at Shard Villa in Salisbury where, family said, Deb and the staff made her comfortable in her final years.

She is survived by her daughter, Irma Heeter and her husband Tom of Vergennes.

Services will be held in Florida, where she had spent her retirement years. 

GLADYS RIVERS

BRANDON — Gladys Rose Rivers, 88, died Friday, May 15, 2015, at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.

She was born in Hartland on Dec. 27, 1926. She was the daughter of William and Leola (Brown) Carter. Her family was stricken by tuberculosis when she was very young and she was separated from them. She grew up as a foster child in various homes in Vermont, where she worked the farms of the families that she resided with.

Following her marriage to Alfred “Mike” Rivers, she worked the family farm with him, in Hinesburg. He predeceased her.

RODNEY “RON” F. WHITE

FAIR HAVEN — Rodney “Ron” Floyd White, 67, of Fair Haven died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, May 13, 2015, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center .

He was born on June 20, 1947, in Addison, the son of Floyd and Shirley (Lattrel) White.

Ron grew up in Addison where he attended local schools, then he lived in Orwell for a few years prior to relocating to Fair Haven in 1976.

He was a longtime property manager of Green Mountain Mobile Manor an  of Appletree.

Ron was a former member of the JayCees and Eagles Club.

SALLY ANN PERCIANTE

SHOREHAM — Sally Ann Perciante (Sal Bo), 55, died Thursday May 7, 2015, at her home after a long illness.

She was born March 16, 1960, in Morristown, N.J., the daughter of Henry and Rosemary (Wright) Perciante.

Sally was of Catholic faith and enjoyed cooking, entertaining at parties, spending time with children, family and friends and had a great love for animals all of which she held dear to her heart.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
