LOUIS RIVERS JR.

ADDISON — Louis G. Rivers, 64, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Aug. 22, 2014, at his home in Addison, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.

He was born on Oct. 28, 1949, in Middlebury, the son of the late Louis Rivers, Sr. and Edna (Grace) Rivers. Louie, as he was affectionately called by friends and family, attended and graduated from Vergennes Union High School, Vergennes, Vt. He and his wife, Diane Whittemore, were high school sweethearts and married on July 18, 1970.

PATRICIA M. ROCKWOOD

BRISTOL — Patricia M. Rockwood, born June 6, 1935, left us Thursday Aug. 28, to dance amongst the stars, taking the hand of her son, Chris, and the arm of her husband, George.

“Life is not a journey to the grave, arriving in a well preserved attractive body. One should show up late, skid in sideways, screaming WHOO HOO, what a ride!”

MIDDLEBURY — Lauri-Lynn Andrews, 58, died quietly at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury, on Aug. 22, 2014.

IRA FARNSWORTH

PANTON — Ira Charles Farnsworth, 89, passed away Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at his home in Panton.

He was born Aug. 9, 1925, in Oxford, Mass., the son of Charles and Emily (Turksham) Farnsworth.

Ira was a life member of NRA and National Bench Rest Shooters Association. He served in the U.S. Army for four years during WWII and he retired from the Vermont Army National Guard in December of 1983 after 40 years of service. He was the owner of Farnsworth Ammunition until 2009.

He was predeceased by his wife, Emogene Farnsworth, in 2009.

GLADYS PATNODE

NORFOLK, Va. — Gladys (Griffin) Patnode, 95, formerly of Orwell and Middlebury, died July 29, 2014, in Norfolk, Va.

She was born in Sudbury on Dec. 14, 1918, the only daughter of Delmar and Mildred (Jenks) Griffin.

ROBERT POPICK

WALTHAM — Robert “Rob” Francis Popick passed away peacefully at his home in Waltham, Vt., on Aug. 21, 2014, surrounded by his wife and children.

Rob was born on Jan. 24, 1945, in New York, N.Y., to Stephen Popick and Frances Popick (née Sliwa), and grew up and attended school in Hunterdon County, N.J. Rob began his lifelong career in art as a young man; he first worked as an apprentice in an art gallery and printmaking shop in Flemington, N.J., and later studied painting at the New School of Social Research in New York City.

YVONNE AUDET

SHOREHAM — Yvonne Audet, 72, died peacefully early Friday morning, Aug. 15, 2014, at the home of her daughter in Bridport.

Born Jan. 24, 1942, in Casselman, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Auguste and Helene (Quesnel) Lamoureux. The family moved to Vermont and Yvonne was a graduate of Brandon High School.

She married Marcel Audet on Sept. 21, 1963.

Yvonne was a clerk and seamstress for Ben Franklin and Geiger Corp. She also operated her own gift shop.

CHARLES “ANDY” BAUMGARTNER SR.

EAST MIDDLEBURY — Charles “Andy” Baumgartner Sr., 69, of East Middlebury died Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at Mountain View Center, Rutland.

Born in Plymouth, Mass., March 20, 1945, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Dorothy (Haley) Baumgartner. 

He was a truck driver employed by S.D. Ireland Inc. prior to his retirement. He had worked for Champlain Construction previously. He moved from Plymouth to East Middlebury in 1981. 

His relatives say he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

AVA W. BEENEN

FERRISBURGH—Ava W. Beenen, 70, passed away Friday, Aug. 15, 2014 at her home in Ferrisburgh.

She was born Oct. 25, 1943, in Whitinsville, Mass., the daughter of Francis and Bertha (VanDyke) Jackson.

She was a member of United Reformed Church of New Haven. Her hobbies were painting, crafts, reading, knitting and planting flowers. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren who were a great joy in her life.

BRIDPORT — A graveside service for Gene A. Oliver, 46, who died Dec. 17, 2013, will be held in Bridport Central Cemetery on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at 11 a.m. Rev. Patricia Jackman will officiate. ◊

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
