CONSTANCE PLUNKETT

MIDDLEBURY — Constance R. Plunkett, 86, died peacefully at Vermont Respite House in Williston on May 20, 2014. She was born in Bronxville, N.Y., on Sept. 4, 1927, the daughter of Daniel deVere Raymond and Zoe (Campbell Hennion) Raymond. She graduated from Bronxville High School in 1945 and Connecticut College in 1949.

THERESA BERTRAND

ORWELL — Theresa V. Bertrand, 65, died May 11, 2014, at her residence in Orwell following a long illness.

She was born on Oct. 26, 1948, in Middlebury, the daughter of Louis and Annette (Parent) Gevry.

She graduated from the Fair Haven High School in 1967.

She was employed at Buxton’s Store for several years and for 26 years by the Half Way House Restaurant as a waitress prior to her retirement in 2008.

Her family says she enjoyed fishing, gardening and taking care of her lawn. She loved animals.

BARBARA BUSHEY

MIDDLEBURY — Graveside services for Barbara A. Bushey, 71, who died Feb. 13, 2014, will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2014, at Grandview Cemetery in Charlotte, with the Rev. David Wood officiating.

SHIRLEY DOPPELT DRY

MIDDLEBURY — Shirley Doppelt Dry, 95, died peacefully on May 13 at her home on Murdock Court in Middlebury, where almost every available square inch of wall space was decorated with her own lively, colorful artwork and photographs of her beloved family and friends.

Shirley Doppelt was born in Chicago on Sept. 26, 1918, the oldest daughter of Regina and Frank Doppelt. She attended the University of Illinois, where she met her husband, Sidney, and graduated from Northwestern University in 1939.

NANCY FOOTE

WEYBRIDGE — Nancy D. Foote, of Weybridge, Vt., passed peacefully on May 10, 2014. She was 84.

Nancy was the daughter of Vinton and Thelma Dickey, of Manchester, N.H. As a young girl, she moved to Middlebury, where her father managed the Middlebury Inn. It was there Nancy was home-schooled and learned piano, often playing and singing for guests.

DORIS B. HAYDEN

PANTON — Doris B. Hayden of Panton, 94, died on May 9, 2014, of heart failure. She was born on Sept. 15, 1919, in Mansfield, Pa., daughter of Sadie Mabel (Bowen) and Dwight Hoard Bailey.

She attended Mansfield State College and Northwestern University, receiving a BA in occupational therapy, and Penn State University, receiving an MA in college guidance. She worked as a special ed teacher and advocate for children with special needs.

MARIE HORLACHER

TAMPA, Fla. — Early in the morning of April 27, Marie Clevenger Horlacher passed away peacefully at Florida Hospital, Tampa, after a heroic month-long battle against post-surgical complications. At her side were her loving husband of 60 years, David Horlacher, and her loving children, David Horlacher Jr., Dianne Showers and Carol Rini.

MIDDLEBURY — The memorial service for Frances Cornwall Hutner, who died at age 95 at her Ripton home, will be held at Mead Chapel on the Middlebury College campus on Saturday, May 31, at 11 a.m. A reception will follow at the Swift House in Middlebury.

MIDDLEBURY — Graveside services for Helen M. Krampitz, who died Jan. 30, 2014, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014, at Middlebury Cemetery.

EAST MIDDLEBURY — Graveside services for Louise L. Murray, who died April 19, 2014, will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at Prospect Cemetery in East Middlebury, with the Rev. Robert Borden officiating.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
