ROBERT DESFORGES

FOREST DALE — Robert Joseph Desforges, 79, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at his home in Forest Dale.

He was born in Shoreham on Feb. 20, 1935. He was the son of Leo and Yvette (Larocque) Desforges. He grew up on the family farm in Sudbury and received his early education in local schools. He served in the United States Army from 1957 through 1958.

JOHN L. DUFFY, M.D.

MIDDLEBURY — John Lester Duffy (Jack) passed on April 29, 2014, in Middlebury, VT. He was born Jan. 26, 1927, to Lester M. and Mildred Aitken Duffy.

He grew up in Northport, Long Island, and graduated from Northport High School in 1945, Columbia University in 1948, and New York Medical College in 1952. Dr. Duffy received his Pathology training at Meadowbrook Hospital, Long Island, and at Murphy Army Hospital in Waltham, MA, where he was a Captain in the US Army Reserves.

CATHERINE E. FITZPATRICK

MIDDLEBURY — Catherine E. Fitzpatrick, 92, died at her home in Middlebury on April 28, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 27, 1921, in New Haven, the daughter of Arthur and Helen (Mulligan) Fitzpatrick.

MIDDLEBURY — Graveside services for Simone B. Malzac, 101, who died Feb. 13, 2014, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury, will be held Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cemetery with Rev. William R. Beaudin, pastor of St. Mary’s Church, officiating.

MIDDLEBURY — Graveside services for Judy A. Marshall, 56, who died Jan. 6, 2014, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, will be conducted Friday, May 2, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Weybridge Cemetery with Rev. Lee Atkins, retired Methodist minister, officiating.  

LARRY POULIOT

MIDDLEBURY — Larry “Laurent” Albert Pouliot, 66, of Middlebury died peacefully on April 8, 2014, in Burlington. He was born April 17, 1947, in Standstead, Quebec, Canada, to Irene (Goupil) Pouliot and the late Albert Pouliot.

He was a self-employed painter. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. His family says he enjoyed cooking, gardening and doing arts and crafts. He had a unique sense of humor.

JUNE SAUER

MIDDLEBURY — June Sauer, 88, died April 8, 2014, after a short illness. She had been living at The Lodge at Otter Creek in Middlebury for the past five years.

She was born on July 6, 1925, to Henry and Alice Behrens in Brooklyn, N.Y. She grew up in Jamaica Estates, Long Island, N.Y., where she enjoyed her pony, Toy Boy; tumbling; and Luther League. When she was 15, long before bicycle touring was popular, she and her friend Margie took a month-long bicycle tour through New England.

BLANCHE G. WALKER

RIPTON — Blanche G. Walker, 91, of Ripton, died Monday morning, April 21, 2014, at Our House in Rutland.

Blanche was born in Nashua, N.H., on Jan. 28, 1923. She was the daughter of John and Victoria (Ouellette) LaQuerre. Blanche grew up in Nashua, and graduated from Nashua High School. She worked in local factories, and following the end of World War II in 1947 married James H. Walker, also of Nashua.

SOUTH STARKSBORO — A memorial service for Nelly Hofmann, 85, of Crown Point, N.Y., who died Jan. 29, 2014, will be held Saturday, May 17, from 1-4 p.m. at the Jerusalem Schoolhouse in South Starksboro.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
