FREDERICK LOWD SR.

NEW HAVEN — Frederick “Fred” E. Lowd Sr. passed away at his residence in New Haven on the morning of Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, after a battle with cancer.

Born July 28, 1927, in Haverhill, Mass., the son of the Rev. Harry and Katherine (Dennison) Lowd, Fred was a 1947 graduate of Bristol Agricultural School in Bristol, Mass. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United State Navy and proudly served during WWII. Fred went on to marry his wife of 59 years, Erma (Burrington) on Feb. 25, 1956, in South Easton, Mass.

ROGER MCQUEEN

BRANDON — Roger Bruce McQueen, 87, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, in Brandon. He was born on Aug. 9, 1927, in Port Washington, N.Y., the son of Robert and Elin Kristin (Gustafson) McQueen.

He was raised in Port Washington, graduated from Port Washington High School and attended Nassau Community College, Long Island, N.Y. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at age 17. He served in World War II and was called back for the Korean War. He served seven years total.

ESTHER MILLER

CAPE CORAL, Fla./VERGENNES, Vt. — Esther Bristol Miller died on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, in Cape Coral Hospice House, Cape Coral, Fla.

She was born in Vergennes, Vt., on April 18, 1930, the daughter of the late Walter and Johanna (Duggan) Bristol.

She is survived by her three children, Deborah Vezina of Las Cruces, N.M., Jeffrey Yandow of North Ferrisburgh, Vt., and Cynthia Strojny of Savannah, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Howard.

PETER MORRIS

WEST FERRISBURGH — Peter DuBois Morris went into the light on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, a fitting date for someone whose birthday was on Halloween.

He was born in New York City in 1943, the son of Mary Brewster (Derby) Morris and DuBois Schanck Morris Jr. He was educated at Darrow, Blair Academy, and at Syracuse University. His love of skiing brought him to Vermont, where he practiced architecture for many years. In 1977, he married Pennie Beach and they lived together at Basin Harbor.

PHILIP O’BRIEN II

FERRISBURGH — Philip J. O’Brien II, 52, of Ferrisburgh died Feb. 21, 2015, surrounded by family and friends.

He was born Sept. 11, 1962, in Middlebury. He graduated from Vergennes Union High School and trained at Wyoming Technical as a diesel mechanic.

Returning home, he worked at the family business, Lebeau & O’Brien Oil Co., and started his own company, Second Change Movers, which he operated for 12 years.

GEORGE ‘DUTCH’ SEIFERT

ORWELL — George Ernest “Dutch” Seifert, 91, of Orwell died peacefully on Feb. 20, 2015. Born in North Guilford, Conn., on April 2, 1923, he was the son of the late George F. and Nellie (Thody) Seifert. He attended the North Guilford Schools. He married Marion E. Kelsey on April 14, 1956.

GRACE TAYLOR

TICONDEROGA, N.Y. — Grace Agnes Taylor, 84, of Ticonderoga passed away on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015, at Heritage Commons Residential Health Care of Ticonderoga after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

Born in Burlington, Vt., April 18, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Mitchell and Cora (Crowningshield) Martin.

She was a resident of Ticonderoga for most of her life, where she married the love of her life, Leslie A. Taylor Sr. on Jan. 11, 1949. Grace dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren.

JOSEPH PENDROK

ADDISON — Joseph J. Pendrok, 95, of Addison, formerly of South Windsor, Conn., died Thursday morning, Feb. 19, 2015, at Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born June 25, 1919, in Glastonbury, Conn., the son of the late John and Julia (Zesut) Pendrok.

He was a United States Army Veteran serving during WWII with the Military Police from 1941 to 1945, obtaining the rank of corporal.

Joseph married his wife, Eleanor C. Larsen, in 1944 and they celebrated 61 years of marriage. She predeceased him on July 11, 2005.

JOSEPH BOISSE

MONKTON — Joseph Adonias Boisse, 77, of Monkton died on Feb. 14, 2015, at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington. He was surrounded by his spouse, brother and sister-in-law.

DAVID COLE

ADDISON — David P. Cole, 79, a former longtime resident of Orangeburg, N.Y., died at his home in Addison on Feb. 14. He was born on April 29, 1935, in Tappan, N.Y., the son of Ezra Cole and Jean (Powell) Cole.

An avid fisherman and orchardist, he was a graduate of Nyack High School and Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Ga. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering. He worked at the Bronx Zoo, retiring as director of operations in 2001. He was also a lifetime member of the Orangeburg Volunteer Fire Department.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
