Kathleen Knippler

 

MIDDLEBURY — Kathleen (Plog Kloepfer) Knippler, a 20-year Middlebury resident, formerly from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., died at home on Dec. 19, 2010, at 6 p.m. with her loving family by her side, after a courageous six-year battle with metastatic breast cancer.

Born in Niskayuna, N.Y., she was the daughter of Arthur D. and JoAnn (Neuwirth) Plog Sr.

Laura Noble

 

LINCOLN — Laura Gladys Brown Noble, 97, passed away at Cold Spring Home Care in Lincoln Dec. 17, 2010.

She was born June 13, 1913, in Goshen, daughter of Frank and Laura (Washburn) Brown.

She graduated from Brandon High School and briefly attended nursing school in North Adams, Mass.

In the early 1930s she married her husband, Lester Noble. He predeceased her in 1977. They lived in the Brandon and Goshen area until 1936 when they moved to Lincoln. They operated and then owned the family farm and raised their family.

Kimberlie Smith

 

NORTHFIELD FALLS — Kimberlie Lee (Martin) Normandy Smith, 49, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

She was born on July 12, 1961, in Burlington, the daughter of Raymond C. Martin and Betty (McDonald) Hammond.

She married Paul Normandy in 1981. They had two children, Raymond and Misty. Kim married James Smith in 2007 on Sept. 15, which was the wedding anniversary of her grandparents, Alfred and Freda Martin of Monkton, who were very special to her.

Evelyn Cushman

VERGENNES — Evelyn Cushman, 91, of Vergennes died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at Birchwood Terrace Nursing Home in Burlington.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 18, at Vergennes Congregational Church, with interment in Union Cemetery in Ferrisburgh.

She was born Nov. 11, 1919, in LaChute, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Ray and Caroline Black Husk.

She married her husband, Kenneth, on Feb. 3, 1945, and he predeceased her on Oct. 4, 1978.

Gilbert L Forte, Jr.

MONKTON — Gilbert L. Forte Jr., 79, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.

He was born Jan. 3, 1931, in Mahwah, N.J., the son of Gilbert and Margaret Starbuck Forte Sr.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from 1948 to 1952 on USS Toledo, and he earned several medals and decorations, including the ROK Presidential Citation, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal (three-star), China Service Medal, and Navy Occupation Service Medal.

Mattie "Tillie" Lewis DuBois Hunt

CORTLAND, N.Y./BRANDON, Vt. — Mattie “Tillie” Lewis DuBois Hunt, 95, of Cortland, N.Y., died Dec. 10, 2010, at Cortland Regional Medical Center of heart-related problems and pneumonia complications.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 18, at 3 p.m. with a family dinner at Diane DuBois Higgins’ home. Burial will be in the DuBois lot in Cortland.

Adaire Margaret Downing McKean

LINCOLN — Adaire Margaret Downing McKean, 88, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at her home in Lincoln.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 20, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Bristol, with interment in Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery in Bristol.

She was born Jan. 11, 1922, in New York City, the daughter of Robert B. Downing and Beatrice Couture Downing.

She graduated from Nyack (N.Y.) High School. She graduated May 27, 1969, from Rockland Community College as a medical office assistant.

Laura Noble

LINCOLN — Laura Gladys Brown Noble died Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at Cold Spring Home Care in Lincoln.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, Dec. 21, from 7-8 p.m. at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol. Services will be Wednesday, Dec. 22, at Lincoln United Church in Lincoln.

She was born June 13, 1913, in Goshen, the daughter of Frank Brown and Laura (Washburn) Borwn.

Josephine Ross

NEW HAVEN, Vt./ TORRINGTON, Conn. — Josephine G. Ross died peacefully at Helen Porter Health and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury on Dec. 16, 2010. She was 89.

A private burial service is planned. Memorial donations may be sent to Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, 30 Porter Drive, Middlebury, VT 05753.

She was a longtime resident of Torrington, Conn., and more recently lived in New Haven with her son Randall.

ADDISON — Clara Amelia Perkins Briggs, 87, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at her home in Addison surrounded by her loving family and friends.

She was born Oct. 6, 1923, in Charlotte, the daughter of Charles and Jenny Perkins.

She was an advanced student and graduated from Vergennes High school, class of 1939, at the age of 16.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
