Ada Pierce

MONKTON — Ada Hanson Pierce, 89, passed away Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at her home in Monkton.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, at Friends Methodist Church in Monkton. Interment will be in the spring. Friends may call at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol on Friday, Feb. 4, from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Monkton Friends Methodist Church, PO Box 105, Monkton, VT 05469, or Addison County Home Health & Hospice, PO Box 754, Middlebury VT 05753.

S. Whitney Landon III

MIDDLEBURY — S. Whitney Landon III died at his home at The Lodge at Otter Creek in Middlebury on Jan. 23 at the age of 85.

A memorial service to celebrate Whit’s life will take place at The Lodge at Otter Creek in Middlebury on Saturday, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m. There will also be a later gathering in Greensboro.
Gifts in Whit’s name may be sent to Porter Medical Center, 115 Porter Drive, Middlebury, VT 05753.

Robert "Moose" Myers

VERGENNES — Robert “Moose” Myers, 86, of Vergennes died Jan. 25, 2011, at Shard Villa in Salisbury. He had been in declining health for most of 2010.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visiting hours. A funeral Mass was held Saturday, Jan. 29, at St Peter’s Catholic Church in Vergennes. The family requests no flowers or donations.

Ada Pierce

MONKTON — Ada Jane Pierce, 89, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at her home in Monkton.

Christopher Baldwin

NEW ORLEANS, La. — Christopher Baldwin, 56, died Friday, Jan. 7, after a short illness.

Services will be private. The family will hold a memorial event this summer in Middlebury, and asks that any donations in his memory be made to Bridge House in New Orleans (bridgehouse.org).

Born in Albuquerque, N.M., Jan. 25, 1954, he was the youngest son of the late Brewster Baldwin and of Marie Baldwin, formerly of Middlebury.

Mary Jane Danyow

VERGENNES — Mary Jane Danyow, 57, of Vergennes passed away Jan. 21, 2011, at Fletcher Allen Health Care surrounded by her loved ones. She died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Visiting hours were held Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes. A Mass celebrating her life was held Wednesday, Jan. 26, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Vergennes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vergennes Area Rescue Squad, PO Box 11, Vergennes, VT 05491.

She was born May 6, 1953, daughter of the late Harold (Cap) and Doris Field.

Lorillard "Bud" deLancey Jr.

BRANDON — Lorillard “Bud” deLancey Jr., 83, died Saturday, Jan. 22, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

The memorial service “In Celebration of His Life” will be held on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Brandon Congregational Church. The Rev. Richard White, pastor, will officiate.

A private graveside committal service and burial, with military honors, will take place at a later date in the family lot, at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon.

Paul Farnsworth

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Paul Alton Farnsworth, 78, of Spartanburg, died peacefully Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice House in Spartanburg, S.C., in the comfort of his family and friends. Paul was born June 13, 1932, in Randolph, Vt., the son of the late Alton and Vera (Jones) Farnsworth.

A memorial service will be held on Jan. 29, 2011, in Spartanburg. Graveside services in Vermont will take place at a later date in the spring.

Francis "Buddy" Folino

MIDDLEBURY — Francis Robert “Buddy” Folino died peacefully in his family’s embrace at his home in Middlebury on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011.

A gathering of remembrance for friends and family will be held on Sunday, Feb. 13, at 3:30 p.m. at the Lodge at Otter Creek, 350 Lodge Road in Middlebury.

Madeleine Malzac

VERGENNES — Madeleine Malzac (Jan. 3, 1913-Jan. 23, 2011) celebrated this life to the fullest and left to join to her heavenly home just after turning 98. Born in Quebec, Canada, Madeleine moved to the United States at the age of 13 and embraced all the opportunities that life sent her way.

Never one to stay put for long, Mado lived in Chicago, Texas and Vermont and called the Sunshine State of Florida her home for some 60-plus years. During her life she worked in the careers involving fashion, sewing and sales, and always sought to help people.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
