Robert Pidgeon

WINCHESTER, N.H. — Robert L. Pidgeon, 75, of Winchester, N.H., died Saturday afternoon, Aug. 14, 2010, at Cheshire Medical Center following a period of declining health.

Services will be announced at a later date. Fletcher Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 33 Marlboro St., Keene, N.H., is in charge of the arrangements.

He was born in Middlebury, Vt., on Dec. 23, 1934, the son of Louis S. and Helena (Mehu) Pidgeon.

Larry Wright

HENDERSON, Nev. — Larry G. Wright, 67, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, en route to Vermont to be reunited with his family.

Viewing hours will be at Brown-McClay Funeral Home, located at 47 South Maple St., Vergennes, Vt., on Friday, Aug. 20, from 7-9 p.m. Services will be held at the church where he and his wife were married, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, located at 6 Park St., Vergennes, on Saturday, Aug. 21, at 3 p.m. Private burial will follow at a later date at Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Furnace Road, Randolph, Vt.

Mary Napoleon

OCALA, Fla. — Jesus came and called Mary E. Napoleon from this life on Aug. 13, 2010. She was born in Litchfield, Conn., the daughter of Stephen and Mary Varga, and was of the Catholic faith.

Visitation was on Tuesday, Aug. 17, at Hiers-Baxley TimberRidge Chapel, 9695 S.W. 110th St., Ocala. Interment was on Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Woodlawn Memorial Park Inc., 5750 49th St. North, St. Petersburg.

Mary was the co-owner/operator of Fred & Mary’s Country Store in New Haven Junction, Vt. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening for her family.

Henry Williams

VERGENNES — Henry C. Williams, 66, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, at his home in Vergennes.

Funeral services will be at a later date.

He was born Jan. 14, 1944, in Bennington, the son of William and Nelle Sandersen Williams.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Williams Rowland; a nephew; and a great-niece, all of Midland, Texas; several cousins in Dorset; and an aunt and several cousins and the Sandusky, Ohio, area.

Rhonda Altman

BRISTOL/KIRBY — Rhonda passed away on Aug. 10, 2010, at St. Johnsbury Hospital after a long illness.

There will be no calling hours. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

She was born Aug. 3, 1962, the daughter of Ronald Shackett and Rita Davis, and special stepdad Larry Davis of New Haven.

She graduated from Mount Abraham Union High School in 1980.

For many years she was a daycare provider in St. Johnsbury and Kirby. Rhonda will be remembered for her love of family and children.

Thomas Phelps

MIDDLEBURY/MORIAH, N.Y. — Thomas L. Phelps Jr., 73, died Aug. 10, 2010, at the Vermont Respite House in Williston after a long illness.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church of Port Henry, N.Y., on Saturday, Aug. 14. Pallbearers were Rob Emanuel, Lem Tredway, Devon Barcumb, and Lance, Ryan and Steve Bristol.

Althea Ewald

MIDDLEBURY — Althea L. Ewald, 94, of Middlebury died on Aug. 2, 2010, peacefully at her home.

In lieu of flowers a contribution can be made to Addison County Home Health & Hospice.

She was born in Yonkers, N.Y., on Nov. 23, 1915. She lived in Detroit as a child, moved to Canada and then back to White Plains, N.Y., where she went to high school and met her husband, Alan Ewald.

Alan Langeway

FERRISBURGH — Alan A. Langeway, 77, died at home on Aug. 8, 2010, surrounded by his family and friends.

Calling hours are Thursday, Aug. 12, from 6-8 p.m. at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes. The funeral is Friday, Aug. 13, at St. Paul’s Church in Vergennes at 11 a.m. Interment will follow the service at Gage Cemetery in Ferrisburgh.

He was born on April 3, 1933, in Mary Fletcher Hospital, the only surviving baby of a scarlet fever epidemic.

Irvin Stark

MONKTON — Irvin Clifford “Mike” Stark, 70, died Aug. 9, 2010.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14, at Victory Baptist Church in Vergennes. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. up to hour of the funeral.

In lieu of flowers family asks everyone to pay it forward and help a friend.

He was born April 30, 1940, in Jamaica, Vt., to Ruth P. (White) and Benjamin H. Stark.

He served in the U.S. Navy (1958-1964) on board the destroyers U.S.S. Grand Canyon and U.S.S. Wadleigh.

Melissa Ward

MONKTON — Melissa Ann Ward, 31, died Aug. 2, 2010.

She is survived by her son, Colin; her mother, Bonita Kosak; her father, Stephen Ward; and sisters, brothers, aunts and cousins.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
