Marti Kerr Haggerty

 

MIDDLEBURY — Marti Kerr Haggerty died on April 5, 2011, at the Lodge at Otter Creek in Middlebury. She was 77 and suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. She was cared for by the Memory Care staff at the Lodge at Otter Creek.

A “Jersey girl,” she was born in Newark and was a 32-year resident of both Summit and Sea Girt, N.J., before relocating to Weybridge in 2005. She was educated at the Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair, N.J., and Newark State Teachers College, now Kean University.

Mary Lovinna Hallett

 

BRANDON — Mary Lovinna Hallett, 77, of Brandon passed away on Friday, April 8, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Brandon on June 12, 1933, the daughter of Otis and Lovinna (Baker) Bishop.

James Augustus “Jim” McEvilla

 

VERGENNES/ESSEX — James Augustus “Jim” McEvilla, 83, of Vergennes passed away peacefully on April 11, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 16, 1927.

Jim graduated from Vergennes High School in 1948 after two years in the Army. Upon graduation, Jim re-enlisted in the Army for 21 years of service. He retired in 1967. His military career spanned World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War.

PITTSFORD — Joyce Elaine Pond, 83, died Friday, April 8, 2011, with her family and a special friend at her side. She was born Dec. 27, 1927, the first child to Raymond F. and Florence Reed in Brandon. She was raised and lived her life in the Brandon/Forest Dale area.

Grace Slinn Warner

 

MIDDLEBURY — Grace Slinn Warner, 102, a longtime resident of Middlebury, died Sunday, April 6, 2011, at Shard Villa following a brief illness.

Born in Nyack, N.Y., Oct. 4, 1908, she was the daughter of Arthur and Jean (Allan) Slinn.

As a member of a highly respected family, she worked for various families in this area. She enjoyed cooking, embroidery and needlepoint. She enjoyed her independence until January of this year when she moved to Shard Villa. Her family says she will always be remembered for her quick wit and ready response.

Ann H. Vierling

 

MIDDLEBURY — Ann H. Vierling 90, died Thursday morning, March 31, 2011, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitaiton Center in Middlebury.

She was born Dec. 11, 1920, in Clinton, Mass., the daughter of the late Henry and Esther (Kirkland) Hardy.

She was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Middlebury. Her family says she was an avid reader and power walker, loved to be in the outdoors, enjoyed gardening and square dancing, and loved all kids.

Theresa A. Kerr Brisson

 

MIDDLEBURY — Theresa A. Kerr Brisson, 80, died Saturday morning, April 2, 2011, with her family by her side.

She was born March 27, 1931, in Middlebury, the daughter of the late Elmer and Geneva (Gerard) Broughton.

She was a graduate of Middlebury High School. She enlisted in the United States Army where she met her husband, Truman Kerr.

NEW HAVEN — Patricia M. “Pat” Carpenter, 86, of New Haven died peacefully on Friday, April 1, 2011, surrounded by her family and friends at Helen Porter Nursing Home after a valiant battle with dementia.

She was born March 17, 1925, in Burlington, the daughter of Earl and Augustine (Bernard) Welker.

Raymond Ernest Chamberlain Jr.

 

FERRISBURGH — Raymond Ernest Chamberlain Jr., 62, of Ferrisburgh passed away peacefully on Monday, April 4, 2011, at Fletcher Allen Health Care with his family by his side. Ray was born in Ferrisburgh on May 25, 1948, the son of the late Raymond and Eleanor (Humiston) Chamberlain Sr.

Ray served in the military. After his discharge from the Army he met and married Nancy Sherrer on Oct. 28, 1972. Together they built their family in Ferrisburgh with their two daughters.

Robert Clark Sr.

 

BRIDPORT — Robert W. Clark Sr., 57, a longtime resident of Bridport, died Monday, April 4, 2011, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

Born July 20, 1953, in Middlebury, he was the son of the late Burton and Edith (Morrill) Clark. His parents died when he was young and his brother Harold and his wife Rose welcomed him into their family, where he became like a brother to their children, Kenny and Anne.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
