Ronald Shackett

BRISTOL — Ronald J. Shackett of Bristol died Feb. 25, 2010.

A military funeral will be held in the spring.

Elizabeth Wargo

ADDISON, Vt./ MEDFORD LAKES, N.J. — Elizabeth Ann “Bette” Wargo died unexpectedly on Monday, March 1, 2010, at the home of her daughter Barbara Buskey in Addison.

A Mass of Christian burial was held March 5 at St. Peter’s Church in Vergennes. Burial, along with a graveside service for her Philadelphia and Medford Lakes friends was at Old St. Andrew Cemetery in Newtown, Pa., on March 6.

Donations may be made to the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, Holy Hill, 1525 Carmel Road, Hubertus, WI 53033-9407.

Anna Wilcox

MIDDLEBURY — Anna Louise Prahler Wilcox, 92, died March 4, 2010, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

Born Jan. 28, 1918, in Medina, N.Y., she was the daughter of Ilda and Joseph Prahler of Ridgeway, N.Y., and the second of six children.

She went from a two-room country school to receiving a master’s degree from State Teacher’s College in Albany, N.Y.

Naomi Briere

BENSON — Naomi Myrtle Briere, 87, died suddenly Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday, March 8, at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Church, Washington Street, Fair Haven, with the Rev. James A. Lawrence, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fair Haven.

Memorial contributions may be offered to the Addison County Home Health & Hospice, PO Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753.

Marguerite Davis

DANBY — Marguerite Mary Washburn Davis, 87, died Monday, March 1, 2010, at North Fulton Regional Hospital in Roswell, Georgia .

The funeral service “In Celebration of Her Life” was held Saturday, March 6, at the Mallory Funeral Home in Fair Haven. A private graveside committal service and burial will take place at a later date, in the family lot at Evergreen Cemetery in Center Rutland.

Gifts may be made in her name for her great-niece to Grace Life Church, To benefit Abby Fitzpatrick, 655 Molly Lane, Suite140, Woodstock, GA 30189.

Shirley Day

TRAVELERS REST, S.C. — Shirley Day, formerly of Shoreham, Vt., died at her home in Travelers Rest on March 4, 2010.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Christmas Shop, c/o Persis Rowe, PO Box 397, East Middlebury, VT 05740.

While a resident of Shoreham, she helped found the Shoreham Historical Society, and was an early United Way volunteer. She maintained a long-distance relationship with her Vermont community, knitting and donating hundreds of hats and mittens to the Christmas Shop.

Wesley Bannister

VERGENNES — Wesley C. Bannister, 91, died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, in Vergennes, at the home of his longtime friend and caregiver, Susan LaBerge, and her husband, Carl.

A memorial service will be held at Victory Baptist Church in Ferrisburgh on Friday, March 5, at 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to Addison County Home Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753.

He was born in Huntington, March 27, 1918, the son of Wesley and Sadie (Rabtoy) Bannister.

Irene Michaud

LINCOLN — Irene C. Michaud, 82, died peacefully at her home in Lincoln on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, at Brown-McClay Funeral Home. Interment will be in Maple Cemetery in Lincoln.

She was born Sept. 19, 1927, to John and Estella (Cram) Cobb, the fifth of six children.

Kathryn Neef

VERGENNES — Kathryn M.C. Neef, 96, passed peacefully from this life on Feb. 20, 2010, at the Vergennes Residential Care Home.

A private family service was held on Feb. 27 at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Middlebury. The family would like to express its deep gratitude to Barbara and Tim Buskey and the staff at Vergennes Residential Care Home who readily tended to Kay’s personal needs.

Irene Thomas

VERGENNES — Irene Stevens Thomas passed away peacefully on Feb. 28, 2010, at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.

At her request, there will be no funeral or calling hours. Interment will be in the spring at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Bixby Memorial Library, Main Street, Vergennes, or Porter Hospital in gratitude for the caring and humanity of the people who helped care for her in her last weeks.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
