Clyde Wayne Lanpher

ORWELL — Clyde Wayne Lanpher, 46, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, at Fletcher Allen Health Care Center in Burlington.

He was born in Middlebury on June 11, 1965. He was the son of Wayne and Betty (Ryder) Lanpher.

He was an Orwell resident most of his life. He received his early education in local Orwell schools, and attended Fair Haven Union High School.

Dorothy L. “Dot” Leggett

MIDDLEBURY — Dorothy L. “Dot” Leggett, 76, a longtime resident of Middlebury, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in New Haven Nov. 2, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Floyd F. and Bessie H. (Downing) Gould.

She was a homemaker and was employed as a cook at Helen Porter Healthcare for several years. She attended Memorial Baptist Church of Middlebury.

Her family says she enjoyed playing bingo and cards with her friends.

Jean W. Mihran

NISKAYUNA, N.Y. — Jean W. Mihran passed away Thursday evening, Dec. 8, 2011, at Ellis Hospital after a short bout of pneumonia, complicated by long-term Alzheimer’s. She died five days short of reaching her 85th birthday.

Shirley Romaine Wheeler

FOREST DALE — Shirley Romaine Wheeler, 78, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at her home in Forest Dale.

She was born in Forest Dale on Dec. 17, 1932. She was the daughter of Clinton and Lilly (Quinn) Wheeler. She grew up in South Chittenden and received her early education in Barstow Memorial School. She moved with her family to Forest Dale in 1939. She was a 1950 graduate of Brandon High School.

Carole E. Draper

ADDISON — Carole E. Draper of Addison passed away at Porter Medical Center on Dec. 7, 2011. She was born on Aug. 9, 1952, the daughter of Edward and Helen Draper.

She graduated from Middlebury Union High School and Thompson School of Nursing. She was a nurse in the Middlebury area. Carole loved all animals, especially horses and dogs.

Susan E. Brown

FERRISBURGH — Susan E. Brown, 56, of Ferrisburgh died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011.

She was born Sept. 30, 1955, in Boston, Mass., and moved to Leesburg, Fla., at an early age. She attended schools in Orlando at Morningstar Catholic School and lived in Leesburg for most of her life, moving to Vermont in 2001.

Nina M. (Spaulding) Flood

PITTSFORD — Nina M. (Spaulding) Flood, 68, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at her home in Pittsford after a long illness.

She was born in Springfield to Herbert and Gertrude (Rabtoy) Spaulding on Feb. 20, 1943. She worked for many years at the Rutland Northwest public school system. Relatives say she loved her family and spending time at her “Wildcat” camp in Pittsford.

Timothy James Howard

ADDISON — Timothy James Howard, 53, died Dec. 1, 2011, at the home of his care provider in Addison.

He was born in St. Johnsbury on Jan. 29, 1958. He was the son of Donald and Elizabeth (Nash) Howard. He was a former resident at Brandon Training School. He was a resident of Addison, moving there from Brandon in 2003.

Those who knew him said he enjoyed music and listening to recordings of nature sounds.

Jeffery Charles Johnson

BRANDON — Jeffery Charles Johnson, 49, formerly of Brandon died peacefully, Dec. 5, 2011, at Nathan Adelson Hospice, in Las Vegas, Nevada, with his brother Tim by his side.

He was born in Proctor on Feb. 4, 1962, the son of Bonnie Lou (Miller) and Charles E. Johnson of Leicester.

He is survived by his parents, his brother Timothy F. Johnson of Leicester, and a niece.

He was predeceased by his son Daniel C. Johnson in 2000.

John Edmund Newton Jr.

COTUIT, Mass. — John Edmund Newton Jr., 88, of Cotuit, a former Cotuit fire chief, died Nov. 23, 2011.

He was husband of the late Hazel Newton.

 

Born in New Bedford, he was the son of John and Adeline Newton. After graduating from Barnstable High School, he attended Wentworth Institute. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
