ARTHUR HUTCHINSON

PANTON — Arthur D. Hutchinson, 78, of Panton died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014, at the VA Hospital in White River Junction.

He was born March 30, 1936, in Milford, Mass., the son of Arthur and Marion Robbins Hutchinson.

He was a musician and his relatives say he enjoyed playing a pedal steel guitar and playing in local bands. He was a mechanic and enjoyed driving trucks for farmers and he had a strong love for farming. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years.

RODERIC LAYN

ESSEX — Roderic “Rod” Layn, 92, died on Dec. 4, 2014, at Mansfield Place in Essex, Vt.

He was born on Sept. 19, 1922, in Monkton to Wright and Anna (Duchane) Layn, attended Monkton schools and graduated from Bristol High School in 1941. Married to Mildred “Millie” Anderson in 1946, they made their home in Bristol, Monkton and then Rutland where they lived for most of the last six decades, residing for a brief time in Barre.

WYNNE PRATT

PANTON — Wynne Alvin Pratt passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on Dec. 5, 2014. He was born to his parents, Wilbur and Eleanor Pratt, of West Addison on Aug. 21, 1953.

JANICE SHORT

MIDDLEBURY — Janice Larrabee Short, 87, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, at her home at the Residence at Otter Creek, Middlebury.

She was born June 30, 1927, in Shoreham, the daughter of Ernest and Rieta (Campbell) Larrabee. Her childhood was spent on the family dairy farm and orchard where she attended a one-room schoolhouse for grades 1-7, where she remembered getting electricity at age 7 and where hard work and determination were a necessity.

SARA GALLIPO

PITTSFORD — Sara J. (Provin) Gallipo, 50, died Wednesday, Dec. 03, 2014 at Rutland Regional Medical Center with family at her side.

She was born on Dec. 06, 1963, in Proctor, the daughter of Lloyd and Alice (Wright) Provin.

Sara was a graduate of Otter Valley Union High School, class of 1981, and UVM, class of 1985.

She taught math in Vergennes and Proctor before becoming a home daycare provider and self-employed seamstress.

JANICE SHORT

MIDDLEBURY — Janice Larrabee Short, 87, died Monday evening, Dec. 1, 2014, at her residence in Middlebury.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, from 4-7 p.m. at the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, located at 117 South Main St., Middlebury.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Weybridge Congregational Church, with the Rev. Daniel Cooperrider officiating.

Burial will follow in Lake View Cemetery in Shoreham.

A complete obituary will follow in a later edition of the paper.

BARBARA BUTTOLPH

MIDDLEBURY — Barbara Coast Buttolph, 92, of The Residence at Otter Creek in Middlebury, passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side on Dec. 2, 2014.

PAMELA CARTER

MIDDLEBURY — On Saturday, Nov. 22, Pamela J. Carter of Middlebury ended her 2-1/2-year battle with ovarian cancer.

Pam was born May 20, 1959, in New York City, the daughter of Sheila Donahue Carter and David L. Carter. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Jeremy.

Pam is survived by her husband, Andrew Davis; also, her uncle Martin Carter; her aunt Harriette; cousins Josh and Laura; her many friends; and her little dog, Ollie.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
