JACK BILLINGS

VERGENNES — Jack H. Billings, 71, of Vergennes died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

He was born Nov. 13, 1942, in Boston, Mass., the son of Ernest and Helena Billings.

He is survived by a sister, Joyce Jennings of Hudson Falls, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no funeral services.

SHIRLEY LILLY

BRIDPORT — Shirley G. Lilly, 81, died early Sunday morning, Sept. 28, 2014, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.

Born March 23, 1933, in Middlebury, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Pidgeon) Giard. She was a graduate of Middlebury High School and also earned her B.A. degree in Education and taught in Shoreham for many years.

She married Richard Lilly on June 18, 1955.

ANNE ROSE

MIDDLEBURY — Anne Bleakley Rose, 78, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, surrounded by her loving family, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Anne was born March 24, 1936, in Orangeburg, S.C., and was the daughter of William Jay Bleakley and Marjorie Aborn Bleakley. She attended Orangeburg schools and Smith College where she majored in music. It was there she met her future husband, and the love of her life, Frank Stevens Rose, on a blind date. They were married June 22, 1957, in Orangeburg.

WILLIAM DAVIDSON

NEW HAVEN — William C. Davidson, 72, of New Haven died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014, at his home.

Arrangements for a celebration of his life are being planned.

A full obituary will appear in an upcoming edition of the Addison Independent.

DANIEL RYAN

FERRISBURGH — A lifetime resident of Ferrisburgh, Daniel Alcide Ryan, 74, died at home in Ferrisburgh on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014. He was born in Ferrisburgh on Sept. 4, 1940, and graduated from Vergennes High School in 1959. He worked for 40 years as a welder for the Blodgett Co. in Burlington and Shelburne.

His relatives say he had a love of welding, repairing vehicles, and boats. He was a very giving person, and was always ready to help a friend or family member in need.

CHARLES HAZARD

SOUTH STARKSBORO — Charles R. Hazard, 96, of South Starksboro died Oct. 3, 2014, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

He was a member of Libanus Lodge No. 47 F&AM and Libanus Chapter No. 47 Order of Eastern Stars in Bristol and Lincoln United Church. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army Air Corps.

RAYMOND “BUD” KELTON JR.

MIDDLEBURY — Raymond “Bud” Kelton Jr., 81, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, at Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Middlebury. The Rev. William Beaudin, pastor, will be the celebrant. The graveside committal service and burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

OLNEY NEEDHAM

VENICE, Fla. — Olney Wendall Needham, “Hoogie” to all who knew him, died peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, at the age of 85 in Venice, Fla. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jean Ingalls Needham.

CHARLES S. BARBER

SHOREHAM — Charles S. Barber, 90, of Shoreham died early Monday morning, Sept. 22, 2014, at his residence after a brief illness.

Born in Hubbardton on Sept. 24, 1923, he was the son of the late Frederick and Lena (Andrus) Barber.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a self-employed carpenter and was a member of the V.F.W. of Middlebury. His relatives say he enjoyed hunting, gardening, wood cutting, spending time with his family and helping people in his community.

JANICE BUCKLEY

EAST MIDDLEBURY — Janice J. Buckley, 72, formerly of Bristol, died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 20, 2014, at her residence after a brief illness.

Born April 1, 1942, in Greenfield, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Sumner D. and Nellie B. (King) Laraway. She was a graduate of Bristol High School, class of 1963.

Janice was formerly an employee of Rutland Plywood and more recently a cook at JR’s Eatery in Pittsford. She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and enjoyed fishing and crafts prior to her illness.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
