Wilson MacIntire

SHOREHAM — Wilson Gilmore MacIntire, 75, passed away at his home in Shoreham on March 14, 2010.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 27, at 2 p.m. at the Congregational Church in Shoreham.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Newton Academy Restoration Corporation in care of Nick Causton, 1342 Smith St., Shoreham, Vt.

He was born in Binghamton, N.Y., on Feb. 24, 1935, the son of Frank Edgar MacIntire Jr. and Maranda Bohn MacIntire.

Dotty McClaran

LINCOLN — Dotty McClaran, 84, died in her home in Lincoln, surrounded by family and loved ones, on March 15, 2010.

There will be an open memorial service at the Ripton Community Church on Sunday, March 21, at 1 p.m. A potluck reception will immediately follow next door at the Ripton Community House.

Francis Pelkey

MIDDLEBURY — Francis Arthur “Frank” Pelkey, 68, a longtime resident of Middlebury, died Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation after a long courageous battle with multiple sclerosis.

Calling hours will be Saturday, March 20, 2010, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, 117 South Main St., Middlebury. The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Brian O’Donnell, parochial vicar, St. Mary’s Church, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven.

Doris Dike

BRISTOL — Doris Lowell Dike, 92, died Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

She was born Oct. 11, 1917, in Bristol, the daughter of Raymond and Rose McCauley Lowell.

She worked at Van Raalte for 24 years and at Porter Hospital for four years.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Clifton Dike; three grandsons; eight great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, George Martino of Middlebury; a sister, Margaret White; and several nieces and nephews.

Heather McDonough

LEICESTER — Heather Ann McDonough, 64, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Rutland on Oct. 7, 1945. She was the daughter of Charles and Beverly “Bobbi” (Weinle) French.

She grew up in Brandon, where she received her early education. She was a member of the first graduating class at Otter Valley Union High School, class of 1963. Following graduation she attended hair stylist school in Rutland.

She worked with her mother at Bobbi’s Beauty Shop for several years.

Alice Carney

BRIDPORT — Alice Lisbet Carney passed peacefully into a new life on March 6, 2010.

The family will have a private ceremony to celebrate her life at a later date. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Alice’s name may do so to the Lake Champlain Committee or to the Addison County Humane Society at 236 Boardman St., Middlebury, VT 05753.

Robert Ellis

VERGENNES — Robert H Ellis, 55, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, at his home in Vergennes.

Funeral services will be at a later date.

He was born May 18, 1954, in Peterboro, N.H., the son of Robert and Elizabeth Martin Ellis.

He served in the U.S. Navy for several years in Virginia Beach, Va.

Donald Foster

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Donald Edgar Foster, 83, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale.

A memorial service was held Feb. 23 at the Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel in Pompano Beach.

He was born Aug. 28, 1926, in Middlebury, Vt., the son of Edgar and Edith (Persons) Foster. He grew up and attended schools in Middlebury, then graduated from the St. Johnsbury (Vt.) Trade School.

He worked at Foster Motors and then started his own business at Foster’s Flying A Service Station.

Alfred Luther

FOREST DALE — Alfred Henry “Buster” Luther, 87, died Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

The graveside committal service and burial, with military honors, will take place at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon on Friday, March 12, from 4 to 7 p.m., where a vigil service will be conducted by Fr. Skip at 6:45 p.m.

Robert Malone

WHITING  — Robert J. Malone, 81, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury.

Memorial service and burial will be held in the spring.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Addison County Humane Society.

He was born Dec. 2, 1928, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of William and Clara (Weininger) Malone.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
