Posted on June 23, 2016 |
By Angelo Lynn

By Angelo Lynn

House Democrats in the nation’s capital displayed a modicum of civil disobedience Wednesday by taking over the House floor and demanding action on gun control measures that 85 to 90 percent of Americans support.

Yet on Monday, the Republican-controlled Senate defeated two measures brought by Democrats that would have banned the sale of guns to those on the federal terror watch list, and expanded background checks for online and gun-show purchases.

Clippings: Sadly, Orlando offered perspective

Posted on June 23, 2016 |
By Lee J. Kahrs

One year ago, I wrote a column that appeared in this space and in the newspaper of which I am the editor, The Reporter in Brandon. It was June 2015 and the U.S. Supreme Court, by a vote of 5-4, legally recognized the right of gay and lesbian Americans to marry.

In writing that column, I came out to readership of The Reporter. It wasn’t a secret, but it was personal information that I had to share in order to explain my excitement over the court’s historic decision.

Opinion: Change needed in this world

Posted on June 23, 2016 |
By Abby Roleau

I wanted to title this letter “Losing Faith.”

I should clarify my title, I’ve grown up in a very loving Christian home, and continue to worship Him every Sunday. I could argue over the last year my faith has grown and been stronger than I have ever felt it to be. I have so much to be thankful for, so I don’t want any of what I say to take away from that.
