Vermont Symphony’s ‘Fiddlesticks!’ trio to play at Bingham elementary
CORNWALL — The Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s “Fiddlesticks!” String Trio will be in residence at Bingham Memorial School in Cornwall on April 21.
In the morning, the trio will do two breakout sessions with classrooms of third- and fourth-graders, presenting a composing game where students learn the rudiments of composing and have their “world premieres” performed on the spot. In the afternoon, the trio will perform for the entire student body. Stewarts Shops is sponsoring the event.
Members of “Fiddlesticks” are: David Gusakov, of Bristol, violin; Hilary Hatch, of Leicester, violin and viola; and Bonnie Klimowski, of Fairfax, cello. In addition to their own instruments the trio will also bring Godzilla, the bass fiddle, with them. Their dynamic performances are designed to introduce children to the most important members of the symphony orchestra and to make some of the key concepts in classical music-making come alive. Longtime members of the VSO, the performers are funny, friendly, interactive and talented musicians.
This residency is part of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s statewide “SymphonyKids” education program, which reached over 26,000 schoolchildren last year. The VSO’s traveling ensembles visit all corners of the state as part of an outreach program, spreading the word that classical music can be fun.
Founded in 1935, the VSO is the only professional statewide orchestra providing live musical experiences for listeners in Vermont. It is a state-supported non-profit institution and exists for the purpose of fostering and encouraging the appreciation of music in all its various forms, with emphasis on orchestral, choral and chamber music.
