Bristol Legion honors Lincoln resident
BRISTOL — American Legion Post 19 in Bristol on March 8 honored Lincoln resident Eleanor Scully with its “Above and Beyond” award. A nomination letter called Scully “an extremely dedicated individual who unselfishly donates her time to many organizations.”
Scully aids people in the Bristol five-town area as a volunteer with Bristol Rescue Squad and the Lincoln Fire Department/First Response, and as the Lincoln Town Health Officer. She serves countless hours by serving on the District 7 Ambulance Board, takes four to five 12-hour Bristol Rescue Squad duty shifts a week, serves on the Bristol Rescue Squad Training Committee, currently holds the office of vice president of Bristol Rescue and has held every office except president in that organization. She is also the supply officer and maintains the roster the rescue squad. An Advanced EMT and registered nurse, Scully teaches first aid, CPR and other advanced medical classes for District 7.
As a member of Lincoln Volunteer Fire Company Scully is recognized for her medical care skills and appreciated for the care and compassion with which she deals with her patients. She also makes sure that the Lincoln Volunteer Fire Co. membership maintains their CPR and other medical certifications.
In addition to all of this, she was appointed by the Lincoln selectboard and approved by the state of Vermont for the position of Lincoln Town Health Officer. This position requires the ability to handle many difficult situations including neighborhood complaints about problems with animals, septic systems and other health-related issues. The position requires a good negotiator who can handle each situation with grace and professionalism.
In a ceremony at the Bristol Legion Hall this past Saturday, Post 19 Commander Ron LaRose Mary Harrison of the Lincoln Volunteer Fire Co. presented Scully with a plaque honoring her service to the community.
