MUHS boys' hockey suffers first two setbacks
SOUTH BURLINGTON — The Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey team took its first two losses of the winter last week, both on the road. The Tigers are 5-2-1.
On Wednesday host South Burlington edged the Tigers, 4-3. The Wolves got goals from four players, including a goal and two assists from Dylan LeClair, and scored three times on the power play as the Tigers took seven penalties. SB goalie Ted Hopper stopped nine shots.
Tyler Giorgio (two assists), Kolby Farnsworth and Hale Hescock each scored for the Tigers, while Robbie Bicknell, Cooper O’Brien and Brian Kiernan picked up assists. Goalie Jeffrey Stevens made 29 saves.
On Saturday night host Burr & Burton (6-1) dealt the Tigers an 8-5 setback. The Panthers got goals from Ben Turner, Krystian Gombosi, Hescock, Farnsworth, and Ziven McCarty. Devon Kearns assisted two scores, and Kiernan, Ryan Nadeau, Kamrin Bartlett and Wyatt Galipeau also recorded assists.
Stearns made 22 saves, and Ethan Simonds stopped 17 shots for the 6-1 Bulldogs, who added an empty-netter after the Tigers scored twice in the final 3:34 to pull to within 7-5.
