MIDDLEBURY — The Addison County Solid Waste Management District Transfer Station on Route 7 South in Middlebury is reopening on Monday, May 18, to residential traffic, Middlebury Emergency Management Director Tom Hanley reported in is daily bulletin on Thursday. All programs/services will reopen with the exception of the Reuse Sheds, which remain closed for the foreseeable future.

ADDISON COUNTY — Our Jan. 6 story about business composting and Vermont’s Universal Recycling Law inspired some feedback and questions from Addison County Solid Waste Management District residents.

MIDDLEBURY — The surging costs of recycling and a rise in employee health insurance costs are the major reasons for the 9.3-percent increase reflected in a proposed 2020 Addison County Solid Waste Management District (ACSWMD) budget. The trash district plans to spend $3.52 million in the coming year.
District officials are projecting a 12.4-percent increase in health insurance premiums. The ACSWMD — which operates a transfer station in Middlebury and offers a variety of waste-reduction education programs — has a staff of 14 full- and part-time employees.

MIDDLEBURY — Addison County Solid Waste Management District is thanking people who stop by the District Transfer Station off Route 7 in Middlebury to recycle their plastic bags and film plastic. Since this program’s beginning nine months ago, the district has had more than 800 customers drop off plastic film amounting to 3,550 pounds kept out of the landfill. With the assistance and addition of plastic film from Middlebury College, a total of 6,049 pounds has been sent out for recycling.
