Lilian and Brian’s story is one of patience, faith and hope. They met at Two Brother’s Tavern back in 2014, where Brian was working at the time. Seemingly innocently, Brian was fixing his tie one night when Lilian asked if he would teach her how to tie a tie. The rest was history.
A little less than a year later, the couple welcomed a baby boy.
Fast forward two years to January 2017 on the night the Patriots beat the Pittsburg Steelers in an AFC Championship game. As Patriots fans, the night was already looking pretty great, but to top it off, Brian proposed.
The couple decided not to rush the engagement, but rather to wait until they could save a good amount of money for their wedding day. 
Later that year, they had another baby, Arya.
Then, in September of 2018 they hit a roadblock. Brian suffered an unexpected stroke, which landed him in the intensive care unit at UVM Medical for nearly two weeks. With the time that both he and Lilian needed to take off from work, all the money the couple had worked to save was gone.
However, following the stroke Lilian and Brian decided they really didn’t want to put their wedding on hold any longer. So they came up with a plan for how they could achieve their dreams on a tight budget.
One thing that was very important to both Lilian and Brian was the venue, and that it be somewhere that was meaningful to them. Brian had long been a movie buff and it had become a hobby that the two enjoyed sharing. So they decided to reach out to the Middlebury Marquis Theater.
“Justin and Ben from the theater were incredible every step of the way,” Lilian recalled. “They worked with our schedules, were open to our ideas for our wedding day and made our day everything we could have dreamed of.”
Their family also pitched in to help. From decorations to the cake and help with Lilian’s dress and the finances, her parents and sisters were right there alongside her each step of the way.
The couple chose to take wedding photos in the small but beautiful garden behind the Ilsley Library, which was not only a lovely staging ground, but special to Lilian’s heart, since her grandfather used to maintain the garden before he passed away.
On September 23, exactly a year after Brian’s stroke, the happy newlyweds achieved a memorable, non-traditional wedding that suited their personalities and fit perfectly into their lives, despite the setbacks and delays they faced along the way.
“If I could give advice to other brides, I would tell them to get creative with their venue choices,” Lilian said. “While there are many beautiful sites that are designed for wedding parties, choosing to get married in the theater was my favorite thing about our wedding. The location in down town Middlebury was such a beautiful location and reminded me how kind the residents can be when they honked their horns to send us blessings or tried to stop for us to take pictures in the rain. This little town has so much to offer and if you dig a little deeper you will not be disappointed!”
