Bebe Miller’s dance company comes to Middlebury ‘in a rhythm’

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury College dance program welcome’s the Bebe Miller Company on Nov. 8-10. Her newest work “In A Rhythm” will be performed at the Mahaney Center for the Arts. Current and past faculty members Christal Brown and Trebien Pollard will perform in the company.
“In A Rhythm” is a suite of dances based on the dynamics of adaptation and translation inspired by the writings of Gertrude Stein, Toni Morrison and David Foster Wallace, whose voices capture diverse cultural relevancies through their structure of language. Choreographer and director Miller examines the syntax of movement — how we apprehend meaning through the juxtaposed dynamics of action and context in time and space.
The piece has been created within a process which includes individual and collective choreographic contributions from the collaborating artists; their creative insights and energies are an integral part of each work.
“In A Rhythm” performances will take place on Thursday, Nov. 8 and Friday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m., in the Dance Theatre of the Mahaney Center for the Arts. There will be two free public master classes with the company on Thursday, Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., also in the Dance Theatre. A discussion with the company will follow Friday’s performance.
Tickets are $15 for the general public; $12 for Middlebury College faculty, staff, alumni, emeriti and other ID card holders; $8 for youth 18 and under; and $6 for Middlebury College students, and are available by calling 802-443-MIDD (6433) or visiting go.middlebury.edu/arts.
