ADDISON COUNTY — Traffic was slowed on two county roads during the Thursday morning commute by traffic crashes.
Vermont State Police responded to the two car accidents on Thursday, Dec. 20, one of which resulted in the driver being cited for driving under the influence.
The first accident, a two-vehicle collision, occurred at around 7:11 a.m. at the intersection of Route 7 and Little Chicago Road in Ferrisburgh.
Police allege Susan Wry, 51, of Bristol had been driving her 2012 Mazda MZ6 erratically southbound on Route 7 when she rear-ended a 2014 Toyota Prius driven by 60-year-old Douglas Diehl of Chestertown, N.Y. At the time of impact, Diehl was in the process of slowing down due to the traffic signal at the intersection of Route 7 and Little Chicago Road, according to police.
Both drivers were uninjured as a result of the crash and both vehicles sustained “moderate” damage, police said.
While speaking with Wry, troopers said they detected “several signs of impairment.” Police said they screened Wry for operating under the influence and subsequently booked her for driving under the influence, second offense, along with an added citation for careless and negligent driving.
Vergennes police, the Ferrisburgh Fire Department and Vergennes Area Rescue Squad assisted state police at the scene.
State police also responded to a one-car crash on Route 116, near its intersection with Carlstrom Road.
It was at around 7:30 a.m. that state police were alerted to a single-car rollover with injuries.
Police and rescue officials found Riley McGee, 22, of Bristol suffering from what they described as “significant, but not life-threatening injuries.”
Preliminary investigation indicates McGee was driving northbound on Route 116 when his 2004 Subaru Forester crossed the centerline of the road, becoming briefly airborne before landing on its roof, according to police.
Authorities are citing speed as a probable contributing factor in the crash.
The Bristol Rescue Squad took McGee to the University of Vermont Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. State police were assisted at the scene by Bristol police, fire and rescue personnel.
