Middlebury Police Log: Gunshots hit parked car

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police on April 20 investigated a report of gunshots and a speeding vehicle in the Valley View neighborhood at around 1 a.m. When police arrived at the scene, they said they found a vehicle in the parking lot had been shot “multiple times.”

Police said no one was injured as a result of the incident, which remains under investigation.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Served a temporary restraining order on a local man on April 19.

•  Were informed a driver had left Champlain Valley Fuels without paying for gas on April 19.

•  Took into custody Scott Lanpher, 33, of Leicester on an active in-state warrant on April 20. Police said they encountered Lanpher on Route 7 North. Police released Lanpher on citation to appear in Rutland County Superior Court, criminal division, the following day.

•  Responded to a report of an unresponsive woman at a Springside Road residence on April 20. Police said they found the resident, 64-year-old Ellen Kurrelmeyer, deceased due to natural causes.

•  Heard allegations on April 22 of “narcotics transactions” taking place at an unnamed business in the town’s industrial park. The case remains under investigation, police said.

•  Investigated a family argument in the Exchange Street area on April 22.

•  Were informed of an alleged fight between two workers at an unnamed Exchange Street business on April 22. The matter remains under investigation.

•  Mediated a dispute between Jayne Court neighbors on April 22.

•  Heard fraud allegations relating to a local resident’s ex-spouse on April 21.

•  Helped Counseling Service of Addison County (CSAC) officials with a patient who needed treatment at Porter Hospital on April 21.

•  Assisted CSAC officials with a person having a mental health crisis in the North Pleasant Street area on April 21.

•  Checked the welfare of a woman who was experiencing a mental health crisis off Route 7 South on April 23.

•  Were informed of the theft of a 2018 COTC utility trailer from the Lindale Mobile Home Park on April 23. Police said the trailer also contained built-in toolboxes.

•  Received a report of a debit card stolen from the Rutland area being used in Middlebury on April 23.

•  Responded to a report of a small child being left inside a vehicle parked at Porter Hospital on April 23.

•  Responded to a noise complaint at the Briarwood Apartments on April 24.

•  Received a report about a vehicle leaving the scene of an accident on Hepburn Road on April 24.

•  Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS on April 25 with a suicidal woman in the Main Street area.

•  Checked on the welfare of a person in the South Street area who had expressed thoughts of self-harm on April 25.

•  Assisted state Vermont Department of Fish & Game officials with a complaint off Cave Road in Weybridge on April 25.

•  Responded to the alleged assault of a woman in the Valley View Road area on April 25. Police said the matter remains under investigation.
