Middlebury Police Log: Utah man cited after traffic stop

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Scott Hawthorne, 53, of Park City, Utah, for driving under the influence, following a traffic stop at the intersection of Exchange Street and Route 7 North on Feb. 28.
Police said they measured Hawthorne’s blood-alcohol content at 0.98 percent; the legal limit for driving is 0.08.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
•  Intervened in a fight between two Middlebury Union High School students on Feb. 24.
•  Served a temporary restraining order on a parent on behalf of a local juvenile on Feb. 24.
•  Investigated allegations of “inappropriate behavior” at Middlebury Union Middle School on Feb. 25.
•  Took an intoxicated man to received detox services in Rutland on Feb. 26.
•  Assisted a local medical provider who had received “suspicious calls and emails” on Feb. 26.
•  Helped a MUHS students who had been experiencing a crisis on Feb. 26.
•  Assisted MUMS staff with a student with behavioral issues on Feb. 26.
•  Checked on the welfare of a man sleeping in a vehicle off Court Street Extension during the morning of Feb. 26. Police said the man was OK.
•  Assisted Mary Hogan Elementary School officials with a student issue on Feb. 27.
•  Helped with traffic control while a downed tree was cleared from Upper Plains Road at around 5:52 a.m. on Feb. 27.
•  Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS with a patient who had reportedly been hallucinating on LSD at a Mead Lane home on Feb. 28.
•  Received a report on Feb. 28 about a possible domestic abuse case at a local home that was referred to the Addison County Unit for Special Investigations.
•  Cited Scott Gemignani, 40, of Middlebury for unlawful trespass into an occupied dwelling, stemming from an alleged incident at an East Main Street home on Feb. 28.
•  Assisted Middlebury Animal Hospital with a bad check complaint on Feb. 28.
•  Served a no-trespass order on a man who had been banging on a Happy Valley Road resident’s door on Feb. 29.
•  Checked on the welfare of a person who had been sleeping in a vehicle parked on Court Street during the morning of Feb. 29. Police said the person was OK.
•  Served court diversion paperwork on a person who had tried to use a fake ID to purchase alcohol at a Court Street store on Feb. 29.
•  Broke up a noisy group of people in a Cross Street apartment on Feb. 29.
•  Responded to a report of a barking dog in the Washington Street neighborhood on March 1.
•  Responded to a report of a “suspicious vehicle” parked off Court Street at around 3:15 a.m. on March 2. Police said the driver had pulled into a parking lot to take a nap.
