Vermont State Police Log: Bristol man died after car crash in Charlotte

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police are reporting that a Bristol man was killed in a motor vehicle crash this past Friday.

At approximately 3:38 a.m. on Saturday, July 17, State Police responded to a single vehicle crash located on Route 7 in Charlotte. The sole occupant of the vehicle, identified as Gregory Ouellette, 22, of Bristol, was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center by ambulance, where he was pronounced deceased. Assisting agencies included Charlotte Fire Department, Charlotte Rescue, and the Williston Police Department.

Preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling southbound on Route 7 when the vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane of travel, struck a guard rail, and rolled. The operator was ejected from the vehicle. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact the State Police.

In other news:

• Vermont State Police received a report on July 16, at approximately 11:22 p.m., of a welfare check at a residence on Route 66 in Waltham. Through the course of the investigation it was found that Justin Sprague, 25, of Moriah, N.Y., had violated an Abuse Prevention Order approximately 197 times over the course of two days. He was located and taken into custody by Vergennes Police Department. Per order of the court, Sprague was lodged for lack of $1,000 at Northwest Correctional Center. Sprague is due in Addison Superior Criminal Court on July 19, 2021 at 12:30 p.m., on charges of Violation of Abuse Prevention Order, Criminal Threatening and Aggravated Stalking.

• State Police responded to a domestic disturbance on Monday, July 19, on Mountain View Drive in Leicester. At approximately 1:57 p.m., VSP received a threatening complaint. Further investigation revealed that Thomas Pepe, 47, of Middletown, Conn., was involved in a dispute with Laura Earley, 40, also a Connecticut resident, which caused a public inconvenience.

Upon further investigation, State Police detected signs of impairment while speaking with Pepe. Pepe was subsequently taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and transported to the New Haven Barracks for processing. Pepe was flash-cited into Addison County District Court on July 20, at 12:30 p.m. to answer the charge of Disorderly Conduct. Pepe was also issued a citation to appear in Addison County District on Aug. 2, at 12:30 p.m., to answer the charge of DUI 1.

• State Police responded to an assault at a residence on Lafountain Lane in Weybridge, on Tuesday, July 20, at approximately 7:42 p.m. The investigation revealed Sabrina Landon, 26, of Middlebury, committed the offense Domestic Assault and Unlawful Mischief. As Landon was being placed under arrest, she resisted Troopers. Landon was ultimately taken into custody, transported to the New Haven Barracks where she was processed, issued conditions of release, and cited to appear in Addison County Superior Court on Monday, July 21, at 12:30 p.m.

• At approximately 10:38 p.m., Troopers responded to a report of a single vehicle crash on Greenbush Road in the Town of Ferrisburgh. Troopers identified the operator as Ryan Melchionda, 30, of Burlington. While speaking with Melchionda, Troopers detected indicators of impairment.

Melchionda consistently lied to law enforcement, attempted to blame another individual for this incident, and impeded the investigation. Melchionda was screened and subsequently placed under arrest. Melchionda was transported to the New Haven Barrack for processing, and later to Porter Hospital to provide a blood sample.

Melchionda was released with a citation to appear at Addison County Superior Court, Criminal Division at a later date. Melchionda was also issued multiple traffic tickets, including driving with a civilly suspended license and leaving the roadway.
