Vermont State Police Log: Troopers tag drivers for operating while impaired

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police last week cited drivers in two separate incidents for drunk driving.

The first incident was on March 17. That Tuesday, at 10:25 p.m., troopers were dispatched to a one-car crash on River Road in New Haven. Police report that Crystal Hall, 40, of Vergennes was driving a 2004 Monte Carlo eastbound on River Road when the car went off the roadway, struck a tree and came to rest down a slight embankment amongst heavy brush. The car was totaled.

While speaking with Hall, police noted several signs of alcohol impairment. Hall and a juvenile passenger were transported to Porter Hospital for treatment of injuries. Police got a warrant to test Hall for impaired driving. They ultimately cited her for driving under the influence of alcohol or other substance, negligent driving and recklessly endangering another person.

State police were assisted on the scene by members of the Middlebury Police Department, New Haven Fire Department, and Bristol and Middlebury rescue squads.

The second incident took place on March 12, when at 8:20 p.m. state police were dispatched to a one-car crash on Route 17 near Gore Road in Starksboro. Police said driver Robert Warner Jr., 33, of Burlington struck a stop sign on Gore Road and then traveled across the intersection with Route 17 and into a marsh. Warner and his passenger were not injured.

Police cited Warner for driving under the influence and released him to a responsible sober party.

The Vermont State Police were assisted on scene by Bristol Rescue, and by Starksboro Fire and First Response.

In other recent activity, state police:

Troopers investigated and allege that Matthew Rich, 19, of Salisbury went to the residence of an individual under the protection of an abuse prevention order, which they said was a violation of that order. Rich met with troopers at the New Haven barracks and was issued a citation for violation of an abuse protection order.
