WEST HAVEN — Dirt track racing is coming back to the Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Monday night, June 15, but without fans in the grandstand.
Devil’s Bowl will host “The COVID Crusher” event today at 7 p.m. to kick off the Vermont stock car racing season.
The event will count for championship points for the Pepsi Sportsman Modified, O’Reilly Auto Parts Limited Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock, and Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprint divisions.
The headline Sportsman Modifieds will race 29 laps for $1,200 to win and $125 to start, while the four support classes will each run “COVID-19” laps....

WEST HAVEN — Brandon drivers had a big night on Sunday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, winning three races at the West Haven dirt track.
Joey Scarborough won the main event, a 30-lap Sportsman Modified feature; fellow Brandon resident Dave Snow earned his first career victory in the Limited Sportsman division; and a third Brandonite, Dan Desforges, came out of the stands to drive a 2019 Kia Soul to victory in the Street-Legal Spectator Race.
Scarborough led a parade of area racers to the finish in the Bowl’s Sportsman Modified feature, the evening’s top race. He took over the lead from Middlebury’s...
TIM LADUC OF Orwell won the Casella Waste Management "Ron Casey Memorial" Sportsman Modified Shootout feature on Saturday to open the Interstate All Battery Center Vermont 200 Weekend at Devil's Bowl Speedway.

LaDuc took fifth in that major Sunday 200-lap race, with Middlebury’s Justin Comes in sixth in a race won by New York driver Rocky Warner.
On Saturday Brandon’s Matt Bilodeau picked up a second-place finish, and Middlebury’s Jake Barrows nabbed a fourth.
LaDuc, no stranger to Victory Lane at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, has been mired in...

WEST HAVEN — Four local drivers were among the 11 winners on Sunday in a busy night of Devil’s Bowl’s dirt-track racing. Double features were held for all five weekly divisions along with a 50-lap Enduro Series race.
Local drivers picking up victories were Salisbury’s Brent Warren, Brandon’s Matt Bilodeau and Kevin Smith, and Middlebury’s Jake Barrows.
Warren scored his career-first Sportsman Modified victory in a 20-lap feature. The Salisbury racer, who graduated from the Limited Sportsman class after taking that division’s 2018 championship, surprised veteran driver Wayne Stearns on the...
WEST HAVEN — Second-place finishes by Brandon’s Joey Scarborough and Matt Bilodeau and Orwell’s Garrett Given highlighted local drivers’ efforts at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Sunday, a night that saw four first-time winners at the dirt track.
One first-time winner was New York driver Jack Speshock in the main event, the 30-lap Sportsman Modified feature. Speshock races full-time at Albany-Saratoga and Plattsburgh Airborne speedways, while also racing part-time at Devil’s Bowl. On Sunday he led every lap that he ran.
Scarborough broke out of traffic late but was unable to track Speshock down and...
ALYZA MCKEIGHAN, 17, of Brandon, is a rookie driver in the 500cc Mini Sprint Division at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.
BRANDON — For most teenagers, the summer before their senior year of high school is a time for hanging out with friends, enjoying time without worrying about their studies and relaxing in the warm weather. For Alyza McKeighan, a rising senior at Otter Valley Union High School, relaxing has been the furthest thing from her mind this summer.
McKeighan is a rookie driver in the 500cc Mini Sprint division at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven. Racing is not only a family affair for the 17-year-old, but also a way of building confidence in her skills behind the wheel and as a person.
WEST HAVEN — Local drivers made their presence known in only one event of Sunday’s stock car racing at Devil’s Bowl in West Haven: the 40-lap “Leon Gonyo Memorial” race for the King of Dirt Racing Crate Modified Series.
Kenny Tremont Jr. of West Sand Lake, N.Y., dominated the box score of the race, but his victory was never certain until the checkered flag waved. Joey Scarborough of Brandon had a stout drive from the 10th starting position and engaged Tremont in a thrilling battle until the final corner. Scarborough pulled even with Tremont with two laps to go before being trapped in lapped...

WEST HAVEN — Middlebury driver Justin Comes on Sunday reversed a recent run of bad luck at Devil’s Bowl Speedway by winning the evening’s main event, the 30-lap Sportsman Modified feature. A number of other local drivers also posted top-five efforts.
Comes was a championship contender before things fell apart in mid-July. In a string of three races to end the month, he crashed twice and blew an engine as he fell to ninth place in the series standings.
With a new (used) power plant on Sunday, Comes lived up to his “High Side Hustler” nickname and ran the top groove all night long. Benson’s...
WEST HAVEN — Anthony Warren of Shoreham came back to the Devil’s Bowl Speedway here on Sunday and won a race for the second week in a row, and two other Addison County drivers also notched victories during the evening’s racing.
Warren found himself in the right place in the rough-and-tumble O’Reilly Auto Parts Limited Sportsman feature, and ended up in Victory Lane for the second week in a row. Anthony Ryan of Benson was leading and headed for his first win when contact from second-place driver Matt Bilodeau sent both cars head-on into the wall at lap 14. Warren inherited the lead just as the...
