BRISTOL — Visiting Oxbow defeated the Mount Abraham-Vergennes cooperative football team, 33-14, on Saturday, in the Division II opener for both high school programs. Oxbow running back Jace Page and quarterback Cooper Simmons combined to score or throw for all five Oxbow touchdowns. Simmons set the tone early by tossing an 80-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Locke on the game’s first play from scrimmage. BRANDON — Visiting Poultney dealt the Otter Valley Union High School football team a 40-20 setback on Saturday in the Division III season opener for both programs. Blue Devil running back Levi Allen powered Poultney with five touchdowns, four on the ground from 1, 3, 47 and 51 yards out, and one through the air on a 40-yard toss from quarterback Caden Chapman. That catch snapped a 6-6 tie late in the first half. CASTLETON — Recent Mount Abraham Union High School graduate Kevin Pearsall will be a member of the Vermont all-star football team that squares off against New Hampshire’s best in the annual Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl this Saturday in Castleton. Pearsall finished up his career as a running back/defensive end for the Eagles football team this past fall. “I’m excited to play this game with the other great players and coaches,” Pearsall said. “This is an unexpected and wonderful opportunity for me, and an honor to represent my team and school.” On game day, there will be a traditional Shrine parade...
