VERMONT — Golf courses, parks and other outdoor recreation spots opened up to some degree late last week after Gov. Phil Scott announced limited social interactions might resume at such places under strict health and safety precautions. In his Wednesday press conference Scott noted that modeling of the spread of coronavirus continues the COVID-19 disease is being slowed in the Green Mountain State.

MIDDLEBURY — In the next-to-last Bill Davidson Thursday Men’s Golf competition of 2019 at Ralph Myhre Golf Course, on Oct. 14, the team of Steve Maier, John Myhre, Mike Davis and Neil Mackey prevailed.

MIDDLEBURY — Two recent champions added titles this past Saturday at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course’s 2019 Women’s Club Championships.
Middlebury College senior Chloe Levins, a Rutland native, was the Low Gross winner; she had won the collegiate George Phinney Classic on Ralph Myhre back on Sept. 29. Placing second, third and fourth, respectively, at this Saturday’s championship were Kayla Li, Katie Murphy and Lizzie Kenter.

PITTSFORD — Otter Valley Union High School junior Mia Politano fired an 84 on Tuesday at the Proctor-Pittsford Country Club to become the Division II girls’ medalist for the second straight year.
Her total was four strokes clear of the second-place finisher in D-II, Lake Region’s Tia Martinez, and five strokes better than the D-I medalist, Rutland’s Jillian Miles.
Politano has not played golf full-time this fall because she is a member of Coach John White’s Otter Valley girls’ soccer team, and she said she was happy with her game considering that factor.

That foursome topped the second-place team of Colleen Ringquist, Danielle Tomasi, Kristen Johnson and Lisa King.

MIDDLEBURY — Ralph Myhre Golf Course this past weekend was the site of the George Phinney Golf Classic, which was won by the host Middlebury College women’s team.
The Panthers carded a 634 to win by six strokes over second-place Amherst. Panther senior Chloe Levins took home tournament medalist honors for the third time in four years, winning the title in a playoff. Levins shot 153, tying her with Morgan Yurosek of Amherst. Levins parred two holes and won when Yurosek bogeyed the second.

MIDDLEBURY — Ralph Myhre Golf Course this past weekend hosted Middlebury College’s annual Duke Nelson Tournament, at which Panther senior Jeffrey Giguere claimed medalist honors with a two-day total of a par 142 (70-72).
New York University claimed the team title with a score of 589, edging Williams (590) and the Panthers (592).
