Jubilee McGill

I’ve known Jubilee McGill for several years, well before she recently entered formal politics. Like many Vermonters her life has not been easy, but she has a big heart and that has made all the difference. She knows what it is to be a single mom with difficulties in having housing and all the other associated problems. She persisted and pulled herself up and found success. She has long been very active in helping other Vermonters make their lives better, in her work and in her activism. Now she wants to take the next step and help make Vermont better for all of us, but especially the...
This election cycle, I plan to vote for Jubilee McGill for the Vermont House seat to represent the towns of Bridport, New Haven, and Weybridge. Here’s why: Jubilee’s opponent is Harvey Smith, my current state representative. He has shown this session that he is no friend of our climate. He voted against the Global Warming Solutions Act in the Vermont house, a bill that was passed in spite of him, Governor Scott, and his Republican colleagues in the Legislature. Vermont farmers are hurting because of unpredictable changing weather patterns — record rainfall last year and record dry spells this...

HARVEY SMITH
ADDISON COUNTY — All of Addison County’s incumbent state senators and representatives will run for re-election Nov. 3, and many challengers have stepped up to make sure there will be competition for the two state Senate seats representing Addison County, Huntington and Buel’s Gore, as well as in five of the county’s six House districts. As part of our election coverage, the Independent is publishing a series of legislative candidate Q&As, grouped by contest. We asked each candidate the same six questions and offered them space for additional comment. For a list of the questions, see the Q...
Jubilee McGill is running for the Vermont House in New Haven, Weybridge and Bridport. I will be voting for Jubilee and I urge voters in our three towns to also vote for Jubilee in November. Jubilee will bring her energy to the work of the legislature, using her own uplifting story to inform legislative efforts to create more affordable housing, policies to stem the tide of climate change and highlight the national quest for racial justice. The spirit of cooperation she helped engender in the early days of the pandemic, helping residents of Addison County weather the challenges posed by the...
I am writing today in support of Jubilee McGill’s run for state representative for Addison-5, which includes the towns of Bridport, Weybridge, and New Haven. I have known Jubilee for years, and was thrilled when I heard that she had decided to run for office. Jubilee is exactly the kind of person we need representing us — she is thoughtful, caring, hard-working and passionate about her pursuits.  She lives and breathes service, having worked for years in programs that aid the disadvantaged, first with the Addison County Community Trust, and more recently with the John Graham shelter. She is...
Voters from Addison-5 (Bridport, New Haven, Weybridge) would do well to support Jubilee McGill as our new Representative to the Vermont House. I got to know Jubilee when I began working closely with her to build the grassroots organization she brought to life as a rapid-response answer to the early days of the COVID-19 crisis: Addison County Mutual Aid. She quickly gathered volunteers, created systems and brought voice to the needs of Addison County residents. I observed her to be principled, efficient, compassionate and able to relate and collaborate with people across the socioeconomic...
Soon lawn signs will begin appearing in the Addison-5 legislative District towns (Bridport, New Haven, and Weybridge) saying “Jubilee for Vermont.” These signs introduce Jubilee McGill of Bridport, who is running for the Vermont House to represent the Addison-5 District. Jubilee is a native of Middlebury and is a service coordinator with the John Graham Shelter in Vergennes, where she works with people experiencing homelessness to find permanent housing. Previously she worked as a senior property manager and compliance manager at the Addison County Community Trust, which provides affordable...

BRIDPORT — Jubilee McGill knows what it’s like to struggle. It wasn’t that long ago that McGill, now a 36-year-old Bridport resident, was a single mom without stable housing. She was living with depression and anxiety. But thanks to perseverance and a helping hand, McGill pulled her life together. She obtained a housing subsidy through the Addison County Community Trust (ACCT), which gave her a roof and the financial flexibility to better fight her personal war on poverty. “That (subsidy) allowed me to work only part-time, so I could afford to go back to school and get a degree and improve my...
