Kai Williams wins four awards in four years

Vergennes Union High School senior Kai Williams has won second prize in the 28th Annual Mathematics Talent Search sponsored by the Vermont State Mathematics Coalition. This is the third year in a row Williams has placed second, and the fourth year overall he has garnered a prize. He placed third in 2017 as a freshman.
Due to the pandemic this year’s awards ceremony was held May 21 on Zoom, witnessed by parents, teachers, and Coalition members. This is the first year that the winners will not be part of the team representing Vermont in the annual American Region Mathematics League competition at Penn State University since it has been canceled. However, they are invited to attend, tuition- free, the 2020 virtual Governor’s Institute on Mathematical Sciences at the University of Vermont June 21–26.
