Middlebury College and Ralph Myhre golfers make news

MIDDLEBURY — Those who follow golf in these parts recently got three pieces of news from far and near: a  Middlebury College junior competed in the national collegiate championship in Texas, two local women fared well at a tournament in Rutland and weekly friendly competitions returned to Ralph Myhre Golf Course here in Middlebury.
Panther junior and Rutland resident Chloe Levins finished in a tie for 18th place among 131 golfers at the 2019 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships, held at the Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas. Levins shot a four-day total of a 22-over-par 310 (78, 76, 80, 76) and steadily climbed up the leaderboard during the tournament, which ran form May 14-17.
Meanwhile, on May 7 at the Women’s State Day tournament at the Rutland Country Club, Ralph Myhre golfers Nicole LaBerge and Eileen Sims fared well. LaBerge shot 93 to finish with the second-best gross score in the second flight, and Sims shot 95 for the low-gross score in the third flight.
On May 15 in the opening Wednesday Night Men’s Scramble, the foursome of Phil Morin, Dave McDaniel, Reid Buzby and a golfer course officials identified as “Max S” prevailed, with the quartet of Ben Bichett, Chris Thompson, John Mikus and Jordan Bessalel in second.
In May 16 Bill Davidson Thursday Men’s Golf, the trio of Marsdin Van Order, Chris Prickitt and Joe Thilbourg won, with the threesome of Nick Causton, Mike Davis and Bill Brown in second. Davis was the low net winner with a 66.
