MUHS, OV win in boys' basketball

ADDISON COUNTY — In local boys’ basketball action late last week, Middlebury and Otter Valley each picked up victories, while Vergennes and Mount Abraham both lost twice.

TIGERS

On Saturday, the Tigers held visiting Harwood to 14 points in the second half to claim a 53-46 victory after being down by four at the break. Balanced scoring as well as defense helped MUHS even its record at 2-2. Connor Quinn andCullen Hathaway tallied 12 apiece, andBobby Ritter added 10.

The Tigers’ Thursday game at Rutland was postponed due to snow; the game will be played on Jan. 27.

OTTERS

On Saturday, the Otters used defensive pressure to stymie host Arlington in a 68-40 victory. John Winslow sparked OV with 29 points and 12 rebounds as the Otters evened their record at 2-2.

The Otters’ Thursday home game vs. Mill River was postponed until Jan. 23 at 7 p.m.

COMMODORES

On Thursday, Division III Fairfax remained unbeaten with a 74-40 home win over VUHS. Brendon Huestis led the Commodores with 15 points.

On Saturday, host Montpelier erased a seven-point halftime lead and topped VUHS in overtime, 50-44. The Solons took a lead in the last minute before a Huestis hoop tied it at 42-42 at the buzzer, but Montpelier won the game from the free throw line in OT. Liam Hayes (13) and Josh Benning (11) led VUHS, which dropped to 2-5.

EAGLES

On Thursday, visiting Winooski improved to 4-1 and halted the Eagles for the second time this winter, 62-46. Sawyer Kamman (14 points) and Mark Jipner (11) led Mount Abe.

On Saturday, visiting Fairfax improved to 5-0 with a 92-46 victory over the Eagles. Mount Abe dropped to 1-6.
