College, VA to offer vaccine clinic for veterans
UPDATED: The VA will be vaccinating vets in Middlebury with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
MIDDLEBURY — The White River Junction Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare System and Middlebury College are partnering in the COVID-19 vaccine roll-out. On April 10 the VA will be administering doses of Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 vaccine at Middlebury College’s Athletics Complex on South Main Street. This clinic is for Veterans and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) employees by appointment only.
“Partnerships within our communities across Vermont and New Hampshire are the key components in our vaccination deployment,” Dr. Becky Rhoads, Acting Director for White River Junction VA Healthcare System said. “Each large vaccination clinic we are able to offer is one step closer to creating safe communities across our region.”
Middlebury College is centrally located on the western part of Vermont which is why their campus is a perfect choice for the next White River Junction VA vaccination clinic. Typically Veterans in this area may have to drive up to Burlington or down to Rutland to receive their care, but by offering a clinic in Middlebury Veterans will easily be able to access a COVID-19 vaccine closer to home.
UPDATE: On Tuesday, April 6, the college was informed that the clinic will now be open to spouses and caregivers of veterans, too. These individuals do not need to be enrolled in VA care to get the vaccine. They should also register by calling 802-296-5151.
"We are grateful for the opportunity to participate in the Veterans Affairs’ vaccination effort and support the health of local Veterans,” said Laurie Patton, president of Middlebury. “In this past year, Middlebury College could not have been successful without the invaluable support of the town of Middlebury, Addison County, and the state of Vermont. COVID-19 has taught us how critical local partnerships are and we are happy to join with the White River Junction VA Healthcare System to make this clinic possible.”
