MIDDLEBURY — Hay bales, festive games and creative costumes galore! It’s almost time for the 12th Annual Middlebury Spooktacular, on the town green in downtown Middlebury.

On Sunday, Oct. 27, this Halloween bash will bring hundreds and hundreds of youngsters to the town green, all dressed in costumes. No sense saving the special getup only for Halloween — who is going to see your costume in the dark? This is the place to try out that once-a-year outfit.

Come at 1 p.m. for games, music, dancing and crafts. You will be impressed by the sheer number and creativity of the children and their costumes. Closer to 2:30 p.m. the beloved trick-or-treating parade down Main Street will begin. Led by the legendary Spooktacular Witch (during the other 364 days of the year she is Nancie Dunn, who operates the Sweet Cecily Shop on Main Street), children will cross over Main Street to the Post Office and continue up Main Street to Cannon Park accompanied by parents and Spooktacular volunteers. Along the way, merchants and others will pass out candy, fruit and other treats to the little beggars. At Cannon Park, the parade will cross Main Street to the Ilsley Library and head back up Main to the town green.

This year, families can enjoy popcorn, bubbles, a craft table, face painting, cider and donuts available for purchase from Happy Valley Orchard and plenty of candy!

This event is free and open to everyone … creative adult costumes are encouraged.

Spooktacular is hosted by the Better Middlebury Partnership and made possible with support from Shaw’s Supermarket.

Start planning your costume and get your candy bags ready.
