Monkton names principal finalist; meet him Monday
MONKTON — The Mount Abraham Unified School District has selected a finalist for the Monkton Central School principal position, and Monkton residents will get a chance to meet him next week.
Michael Lansing, who is currently an elementary school principal in Reno, Nev., would bring 14 years of educational experience to the position, including 11 years as an administrator and athletic director. He has served as an elementary school principal or vice principal in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Utah. Before that he taught in New Hampshire and Maine.
Lansing will be visiting MCS on Monday, March 16.
Plans were being made for him to meet with students, staff and others during the school day, said MAUSD Superintendent Patrick Reen in an email announcement last week.
At 6:30 p.m. the Monkton community is invited to a “meet and greet” in the school’s music/art room.
If hired, Lansing would replace outgoing MCS principal Betsy Knox, who is serving her sixth year in that position.
Knox announced in January that she would be leaving MCS at the end of the school year, citing family and other reasons.
“This has not been as easy decision, but I know in my heart it is the right one for me and my family,” Knox wrote in her Jan. 6 resignation letter. “I wish to again express my appreciation for the friendship and the support I have received from the MAUSD community over the last six years.”
