BURLINGTON — A group of Mount Abraham Union High School administrators and students braved the cold and took the Penguin Plunge on Saturday, Feb. 1, in order to raise funds for Special Olympics VT. The group raised $2,000 to donate to Special Olympics with the hope that it will help them create a full-fledged Unified program at Mt. Abe.

The school ran a pilot Unified basketball program this year. Unified sports are a part of the Special Olympics program. Students with and without intellectual disabilities play together on teams — basketball, soccer, bocce and snowshoeing. The three principals and the athletic director jumped in addition to a few other teachers and students. Unified programs get a small percentage of the funds raised by the event.
