Ripton Coffee House hosts first online concert

LOUISE MOSRIE and Cliff Eberhardt will perform the Ripton Community Coffee House’s first online concert on Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m.

RIPTON — The Ripton Community Coffee House welcomes Cliff Eberhardt and Louise Mosrie to an online concert on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 7:30 p.m., and invites everyone to enjoy the music from their comfortable, socially-distanced living room.
Due to the coronavirus, the fall season of the Ripton Community Coffee House will not take place at the Community House, but the music continues online. Viewers can find links to the concert at rcch.org.  There readers can also find ways to donate their “entrance fee” directly to the musicians, if they so choose.
Eberhardt is a singer-songwriter with an impressive resume. He has been hailed as a driving force of the Greenwich Village New Folk movement. His songs have been covered by Richie Havens, Buffy St. Marie, Erasure and the folk superstar band Cry, Cry, Cry (Dar Williams, Richard Shindell and Lucy Kaplansky). His contemporary compositions are a surprising mélange of pop, rock and folk styles, sung with rich emotional vocals. Eberhardt’s soulful voice is among the reasons he was named one of the top 100 Folk Artists of the past 20 years.
Mosrie is an award-winning singer-songwriter who has taken top honors at Kerrville Folk Festival, Wildflower! Festival, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and Falcon Ridge Folk Festival.  Her recording “Home” debuted at No. 1 on the Folk DJ charts in January 2010 and went on to be one of the most played albums that year for that chart.
How did a folk stalwart like Eberhardt and a fast-rising star like Mosrie find themselves performing together? It started when Mosrie was writing and recording her latest CD, “Lay It Down.” Eberhardt produced the CD, and it was recorded in his home studio. He played several instruments — acoustic guitar, dobro, steel guitar, high string guitar, classical guitar, bass, piano, organ, drums, midi string and percussion — and co-wrote one of the songs. They realized that they worked well together, took that collaboration on the road, realized that continuing to do something that works well was a good idea, and the rest is history.
Depending on the number of views this first digital concert generates, and the willingness of the musicians, the Ripton Community Coffee House will replace their normal fall schedule with online concerts, though sadly without the open mic or delicious baked goods.  For more information call 388-9782.
