Run or walk in the annual Vergennes Day race
VERGENNES — Attention runners, walkers and wannabes: You’re invited to join the 38th Annual Vergennes Day Race featuring a 5K run, 10K run, 15K run and 5K walk this coming Saturday morning.
Each year the Vergennes Day Race committee chooses a local non-profit as the beneficiary of the race proceeds. This year’s beneficiary is Age Well, an organization dedicated to the support and care of older adults in Addison, Chittenden, Franklin, and Grand Isle counties. Local volunteers deliver nutritious meals to Vergennes residents through the non-profit’s Meals on Wheels program. You can take part in the racing and support this great cause by signing up for the Vergennes Day race on Aug. 24. Details on race registration can be found online at runsignup.com/vergennesdayrace.
Online race registration closes on Aug. 23, at 7 p.m. Race day registration opens on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 7:30 a.m. Entry fee for the running races is $27; walkers pay $15.
Races start at Vergennes Union Elementary School at 43 East St. The starting gun for the 15K race fires at 8:30 a.m.; the 5K and 10K races both start at 9 a.m.
Not old enough for the longer races? There will be a Vergennes Day Kids Fun Run taking place behind VUES on the soccer field adjacent to the tennis courts. No pre-registration is necessary. Race start time is 8:35 a.m. This is a half-mile run that goes through the outdoor classroom path and up onto the high school athletic fields and returns to the soccer field at VUES. No race timing or winner prizes, this is just a fun run.
Kids will get a bracelet and finisher ribbons. Costumes are encouraged and parents may run with their kids.
You can get more information about the Vergennes Day Races by contacting Scott Gaines at 802-877-2873 or sending him an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
