MIDDLEBURY — J. Carol Schoenfeld, 91, died on Aug. 26, 2021, at Eastview at Middlebury. She was born on March 22, 1930, in Butler, Pa., the daughter of Arthur and Margaret (Goughler) Robb. She married Dr. C. Deem Schoenfeld on March 31, 1950. Carol and Deem moved to Vermont from Pennsylvania in 1962, living in Jericho and Rutland before settling in Middlebury in 1990.

He made his living at something that he was, by all accounts, very good at — teaching — in a field he loved: music. The arts were central to his thoughts. He released several albums of his own electronic compositions, and after retirement went into painting. He enjoyed poetry read aloud. He designed and built two beautiful houses. MIDDLEBURY — Lois (Birchmore) Trayah passed away on Aug. 21, 2021, after a brief illness, at UVM Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born Feb. 8, 1954, to Elsie (Morse) and Raymond Birchmore in Middlebury, Vt. She grew up on a small dairy farm, where she spent her younger years until she met and married Raymond Trayah. They were married for 42 years until Ray passed away in 2011.

HOUSTON, Texas — Daniel “Danny” John Trudeau, 72, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2021, in his home beside his beloved dog.
Mr. Trudeau was born in Middlebury on June 6, 1949, the son of Merrill and Pauline (Wells) Trudeau. He grew up in Salisbury, Vt., and relocated to Texas after the Vietnam War. Danny was an avid airplane pilot and was proud to fly a helicopter during the Vietnam War. He worked in the trucking industry for many years and loved traveling the road with his pup in tote, always bringing laughs to those he met.

PANTON — James E. Whitney, 76, passed away Monday, Aug. 23, 2021, at his home in Panton. He was born on Sept. 9, 1944, in Panton, the son of Norman and Gladys (Guillette) Whitney.
Jim was a generous man and was always happy to lend a hand to anyone that needed it and would go out of his way to help no matter the task. CHITTENDEN — Wallace Edgar Thompson, a native of Weybridge, Vt., passed away surrounded by loved ones on Aug. 11, 2021, at the age of 72.
From an early age, Wally was taught to love and respect nature and his elders by his father, Kenneth Thompson (a farmer, Sugarmaker), and Ella Thompson, a well-respected schoolteacher.

MIDDLEBURY — On Aug. 17, longtime Middlebury resident Bruce “Mike” R. Pfeiffer Jr. passed away at the age of 72. Though he leaves many things unfinished and stories untold, the intellectual and creative legacy of what he called “Tangible Imagination” lives on in the endeavors of his children, John and Erin.
