Letter to the editor: WomenSafe grateful to advocates

Back in August, WomenSafe marked Advocacy Week by celebrating our fabulous advocates who do so much to support people in our community who are experiencing domestic violence, sexual violence or stalking. WomenSafe dreams of a world where violence against vulnerable people is practically unknown. We want to build a society that is equitable and just, where no one has to feel afraid at home, at work or out in public. We work toward creating this future by educating youth in Addison County schools about consent, gender equality and respectful relationships.

But until our beautiful dream comes true, we recognize the crucial work our advocates perform every single day. WomenSafe advocates support people who are in crisis by listening, affirming the rights to be safe and unafraid, and providing all kinds of resources that may be needed to get out of a dangerous situation. Our 24-hour hotline is one of our most-accessed resources, and someone is always available at 802-388-4205.

In addition to the caring advocates who support clients directly, other WomenSafe staff members keep our whole organization functioning at peak helpfulness. We just couldn’t do what we do without our kind, helpful, resourceful and steadfast staff.

Thank you to our amazing advocates and staff, who support our neighbors all year long. Though Advocacy Week was one chance to celebrate them, we want them to know that the board and this community truly appreciate them every day of the year.
