Opera company cancels its June performance

MIDDLEBURY — Town Hall Theater in Middlebury has canceled performances for the foreseeable future, with the hopes of restarting shows at some point. One show that will definitely not happen as scheduled is the Opera Company of Middlebury production of “The Maid of Orleans,” which was schedule for early June. The company on Thursday announced that it has been postponed until next season.
“Keeping our patrons, singers, and staff safe is our top priority during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic,” OCM officials said in a press release. This postponement is very disappointing, the officials said. The OCM board thanked the cast and staff for the exceptional work that they had already put into this production.

“The good news is that we will produce the opera at the Town Hall Theater in June 2021,” they said.
Mark your calendars for OCM performances of Tchaikovksy’s “The Maid of Orleans” on June 4, 6, 10, and 12, 2021. The opera company continues to plan for its production of Bernstein’s “Candide” in fall 2020, with performances at Town Hall Theater on Oct. 9-11, followed by a tour to two venues around the state.

If you purchased tickets for “The Maid of Orleans” for this June, you may choose either to receive a refund or to donate the ticket price to the Opera Company of Middlebury. The Town Hall Theater Box Office staff will contact you, and they will handle the refund or donation.
Since 2004, the Opera Company of Middlebury has produced 29 operas and concerts.
