COLCHESTER — Three recent Otter Valley Union High School grads who played for the Rutland Post 31 American Legion baseball team were named among the top players in the American Legion Southern District this summer. BRANDON — Otter Valley Union High School has hired longtime JV boys’ basketball coach Michael Stark to lead the boys’ varsity team.
Stark has led the OV JV since the 2012-2013 season, according to OV Athletic Director Steven Keith, and is ready to help the program continue to thrive.
“He has been a vital element to the success of our boys’ basketball program in the past seven years and we look forward to him continuing that success,” Keith said.

ADDISON COUNTY — Once again the Otter Valley baseball team proved to be the best locally, even though a heartbreaking loss in the Division II final left the talented Otters one win short of the top prize.
Still, Coach Mike Howe’s Otters won 18 games. BRANDON — For the first time in more than three decades, Otter Valley Union High School will have a new coach heading up its softball program.
Actually it will have two.
Legendary OV softball coach Pattie Candon retired at the end of last season after 33 years, racking up 347 wins and four state championships. Two coaches were brought in to replace the Hall-of-Famer, and this year a new era of Otter softball begins under the guidance of Kelly Trayah and Toni Poalino.

ADDISON COUNTY — Mount Abraham knocked off Otter Valley to highlight local high school boys’ basketball action last week. Elsewhere, Vergennes dropped a pair of contests, OV lost another road game, and Middlebury picked up a tight home win.
EAGLES OVER OTTERS
On Wednesday Mount Abe outlasted visiting Otter Valley, 61-51, as four Eagles reached double figures. Liam Kelliher notched 13 of his game-high 20 points in the second quarter to help Mount Abe take a 28-20 halftime lead, and Shain Sargent tossed in 13 of his 15 in the second half to help the Eagles hold off the Otters.
PROCTOR — The Otter Valley Union High School boys’ basketball team won its opener on Thursday by scoring the final five points of the game to defeat Windsor, 61-57, in a game played at Proctor.
Dylan Mackie hit a late three to give OV a two-point lead after the Otters had trailed for most of the game. Patrick McKeighan blocked a shot at the other end and OV rebounded and hit two free throws to nail down the win.
Mackie finished with 22 for OV, and McKeighan and Tyler Rowe added 12 apiece.

MANCHESTER CENTER — The Middlebury Union High School wrestling team lost dual meets at Burr & Burton to the host Bulldogs and Otter Valley on Wednesday due to forfeits, but the four Tiger wrestlers won four out of six contested matches. The three Tiger freshmen also all picked up their first varsity victories.
The Otters defeated the Tigers, 24-18. In contested weight classes, OV sophomore David Williams pinning freshman Tucker Kennett at 145 pounds, Tiger senior Justin Jackson pinned sophomore Carson Bertrand at 132, and Tiger freshman Calvin Kennett pinned freshman Dom Davis at 152.
