OV boys’ soccer edged; other teams idle as postseason looms

ADDISON COUNTY — In the only local high school boys’ soccer game played earlier this week before the Wedneday morning deadline for this issue, Otter Valley dropped a close home game.
Vergennes, Middlebury and Mount Abraham were all set to take the field on Wednesday. Teams will play their final regular season games late this week, and the Vermont Principals’ Association will announce playoff pairings on Monday. MUHS and VUHS could host first-round playoff games in Division I and III, respectively.
On this past Monday visiting Whitchester (the Rochester/Whitcomb team) edged OV, 1-0, on Jacob Hewitt’s unassisted goal midway through the second half. Coach Dick Williams said the visitors played well at midfield and controlled play for most of the game, although the Otters pressed and created chances in the final 20 minutes. OV dropped to 3-8-1 with games at Leland & Gray on Thursday and West Rutland on Saturday remaining.
