I was hoping to get my pals together for one last round of golf before we shut it down for the winter. Monday night last week, Election Eve, was cold with snow on the way, and, sure enough, the next morning, we were greeted with three inches of heavy snow. I felt some slim hope as warm weather was predicted for the weekend. I checked the tee times page at the website of our local course (Ralph Myhre) and found no times listed for Saturday and Sunday. MIDDLEBURY — Christian Ostberg and Marilyn O’Keefe won in the championship flights of the 2020 Ralph Myhre Golf Course Match Play Championship. The tournament was contested in mid-August and results were reported this week. Ostberg defeated Hogan Beazley in the decisive match on the Championship Flight, and O’Keefe bested Eva Mastalos in the Women’s Flight final.  In the Men’s Flight final, Kyle Goodman defeated Steve Goodman, and in the Senior Men’s Flight Doug Biklen topped Donald Dayton. MIDDLEBURY — With cooperative weather, Ralph Myhre Golf Course’s regular weekly outings for its members were still going strong last week.  In the Wednesday Scramble on Sept. 23 the team of Bert Phinney, Ric Wheeler, Josh Newton and Dale White prevailed.  On Sept. 24 the foursome of Paul Politano, Chris Prickitt, Richard Hodgson and Nick Causton came out on top in Bill Davidson Thursday Men’s Golf, with the group of Tom McGinn, James Hadeka, Don Dayton and Steve Maier taking second. MIDDLEBURY — Ralph Myhre Golf Course this past weekend hosted the annual Mid-Amateur Vermont Women’s Golf Association Tournament for competitors 30 and older.  Rebecca Montgelas of Ekwanok Country Club fired a two-round total of 161 to prevail, holding onto her first-round lead and gaining an additional stroke in round two to win the 2020 title by three strokes over Carson Laderoute (164) of Burlington Country Club.  Heather Niquette of Vermont National Country Club battled for third with Holly Reynolds of Copley Country Club, and they ended in a tie at 166. MIDDLEBURY — Christian Ostberg and Katie Ritter won the men’s and women’s club titles this past weekend at Ralph Myhre Golf Course. Ostberg breezed to a win by shooting 140 over the two days, with Dale White and Kirk Goodman tying for second at 159.  Ritter edged Mary Stetson, 187-188, to become the Women’s Flight Gross Winner. MIDDLEBURY — Ralph Myhre Golf Course members were busy in statewide competitions last week, including at a Vermont Junior Stroke Play tournament held on their home course on July 31.  In that event two golfers with the Middlebury club earned second-place finishes, Lucas Politano in the boys’ 10-to-14-year-old competition, and Mia Politano in the girls’ 16-to-18 tournament.  On July 28 a number of Ralph Myhre members competed in a Vermont State Women’s Golf Association tournament at the Lake St. Catherine Country Club.
